I skipped my evening dose of flecainide which is 100 mg. I just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. So far I have had no side effects.

Thank you.

Yes I have occasionally. Once I realised,I just waited until time for next dose and took slightly earlier. It stays in your system to some degree unlike ,say, Apixaban which has half life of 12 hours.I don't recommend forgetting though lol!

Hi frances, when you say skipped, I assume you mean accidentally and not on purpose 😉. Even using a dosette box and a phone alarm, I have managed to miss the odd dose over the years an I’m still alive to tell the tale! All drugs come with leaflets which tell you what to do if your miss or over dose so just follow the advice they offer……

Yes, I forgot to take my morning dose which is 50 mg. How long have you been on flecainide?

in reply tofrancesturpin

I took 50mg x 2 regularly after my CV in September 2014 started to falter after about a year and it kept me in rhythm right up to my first ablation back in 2016. My EP suggested that kept taking it for another 6 months.

Now I only take it as a PiP which fortunately isn’t very often 🤞

When I took flecainide I missed an evening dose as I was in Aldi when my reminder alarm went off, and I forgot when I got home!. Next morning I woke up and went straight into AFib.

how long did your Afib last? Did you go to hospital?

Day and a half, yes ended up overnight, i was always fast afib and very difficult to convert. I took an extra 50 mg ontip of the morning dose and it dud nothing in 4 hours, so i went to A&e for advice on how much flec i could take as never done thus before and knew it was dangerous. So they put me i A&E and gave me another 100 and said it will act in an hour. So 2 hours later i sm still doing 165bpm lying down so they gave me some other drugs via IV to try to contain it so 2 hours later they admitted defeat and admitted me Into MAU. I think i cardioverted late morning the day after , thnk after taking the 50 evening disecand 100 morning dose but memory a bit hazy on that. They always struggled to get me out afib high rate

I've been on flecainide for 13yrs now and over time have missed numerous doses especially on long haul flights with frequent time changes etc. As long as I took it as soon as I remembered and the next one no sooner than 9-12hrs later all was well and no side effects. 😀

I missed my morning dose of flecanaide, bisoprolol and blood thinners, I just took my normal night time dose of flecanaide and all was fine.

Missed the same dose two or three times all was fine, like wilsond I just took the next dose a couple of hours earlier.

I forgot my flecainide a few times when I was on long haul, so asked my cardiologist what to do his reply was “ don’t worry” just take the next one when you normally would.

He was more concerned about me forgetting anticoagulant and so I have a couple of apixoban in several places including my wife’s handbag, my travel bag etc. I refresh them every 6 months or so to avoid waste/ expiry

For a long term user it should not be a problem as the Flecainide builds up in the blood plasma and should keep you ok for a few days.

Thank you. I did not know that it builds up in your plasma.

How long have you been on Flecainide? I just started 3 months ago after my ablation. I am taking it to control my atrial fibrillation. Flutter seems good after ablation.I don't really want to have another ablation for my afib if flecainide works to control afib.

I was on Flecainide for 2 years but it built up in my system to almost dangerous levels. It caused LQTS together with Sertraline. Most users will not have this problem but my system just could not get rid of the excess in the blood.

What are you taking now instead of flecainide?Do you have aflutter or afib?

I was ablated for flutter so they put me on flecainide to control A-fib not sure if I want a second ablation.

I had AFlutter and had an ablation. Had been on Flecainide but no longer.

My first cardiologist put me on it and my weekly AFlutter and tachycardia attacks ceased.

My new cardiologist said that Flecainide does not work with AFlutter.

Beats me but it sure stopped my flutter.
