Cardioversion

Had my cardio version yesterday and it took 4 hours from the time I booked in to going home. Most of time was spent pre and post procedure in the recovery room and the next room where they give you T or coffee + biscuits, then into discharge room. I was in that room over an hour as I was in q waiting for nurse to discharge me and 35 min wait after phone call for pick up.

It went very smoothly and there is nothing to worry about and one nurse was there from the start to finish making sure I was ok. I was surprised how many times they went over checking my name and address etc. When all was ready the surgeon asked my name, what procedure I was having and showed me my signature on form. I expect that was covering themselves from any post procedure problems.

It only took one shock to bring me back into sinus rhythm so that was good. Total rest for 24 hours and then gradually get back into exercise. I will not go all out but gradually over the weeks build up again.

They say "Listen to your body" when exercising and to a point I adhere to that at most times but not when I am in Afib. If I did not wear a watch that tells me how high my heart rate is I would never know my bpm is climbing to a dangerous level. It has gone up to 150-160 at times and the mobile ecg said 210. At no time did I feel out of breath or thumping heart in chest so I could of just either carried on jogging or brisk walking and may of had problems.

So today using my finger pulse oximeter and bpm is a steady 62-66 with oxygen level of 97-98 so looking good. How long I will stay out of afib is anybody`s guess but for the moment I am pleased.

Good. That sounds like textbook dccv! In the olden days I used to be kept in overnight. Let's hope this lasts a fair amount of time.

Thank you for all your support & comments. It is a funny feeling as you know you have to carry on life as normal, although exercise for me is delayed by my own choice for about a week. Even the slightest thing out of normal I think have I started the afib again! I threw some bird seeds on the roof this morning and straight away I thought has that slight effort started afib.I know that is silly and not the way to go about your normal life and no doubt will in the long run start me getting stressed & worried about everything I do which is not good.

Give me a few days and I will forget about worrying and just be mindful of not over exerting myself if it can be helped. I have read just the most simple things can start afib off again so no point in worrying over everything I do.

My cardioversion lasted until the first stressful situation, a critical football game on TV, it tripped me back into AF.

Moral of the story, try to avoid stress and other triggers.

It's always taken about four weeks to feel well enough to train but I was to.d 48 hours and I know some people do feel OK that soon. Lucky them. Hope it goes well for you x
