Video and text of what doctor's need to know about NICE Atrial Fibrillation Guidance
I wonder how many of us are on Warfarin and, more importantly will be able to continue with the regime.
Yes, I wonder the same thing Jalia. I'm on Warfarin and like the fact that I can check it's efficiency with my own machine. How about, we start a new post asking who takes Warfarin?
I have spoken to two long term Warfarin patients who have been taking it for over 30 years and are happy with it. One is a heart transplant patient.
Personally I never had consistant readings with it and had weekly checks and did not like it. The newer drugs were contra indicated for me so I had an Amplatzer amulet fitted
Thank you Bob, saved my fingers
The detailed guidance from Nice states "For adults with atrial fibrillation who are already taking a vitamin K antagonist and are stable, continue with their current medication and discuss the option of switching treatment at their next routine appointment, taking into account the person's time in therapeutic range." (this was updated in 2021).So we can continue with warfarin if we have a reasonable TTR, i.e. 70% or better, which can be easily achieved with a Coaguchek.
It also states: "When deciding between anticoagulation treatment options:
Discuss the risks and benefits of different drugs with the person and follow the recommendations on shared decision making in NICE's guideline on patient experience in adult NHS services.
Follow the recommendations on patient involvement in decisions about medicines in NICE's guideline on medicines adherence and patient decision aids in NICE's guideline on medicines optimisation."
So you can't be railroaded into changing from warfarin.
This explains why my practice has called me for a NOAC review. Not that I'm on Warfarin.
Excellent Video, backs up all I have been saying today,I do apologies for not picking this up.Thank you.
