I hope somebody on here can reassure me a wee bit. Last week I was swimming in the local pool, and had stopped at the shallow end for a minute, when I noticed my arm floating about, and it looked like it didn’t belong to me. I could move it and swam up to the deep end and put my hand on the edge of the pool, but it fell off. I got out and my hand couldn’t get the key to open my locker (used the other one obvs) and got dressed ok. Couldn’t find my nose with that hand, nor the bell on the bus. No numbness or tingling and could talk ok. Rang my doc and she said I sounded ok and maybe the shoulder I broke could be the culprit, so asked the physio to check it out, but all ok there. Back to the doc, and am now waiting for an appointment to the TIA clinic. Sorry for the long post, but panicking a bit since I’m on Rivaroxaban 20mg., and not had an AF attack since last August.
Don’t mean to moan, I know most of you have more to worry about than I have.

That's not moaning Cha, I could show you moaning!!!😂
What an odd episode for you to have. It sounds as though you're on the right route to finding out just what it was all about. Did your GP do a blood test?
I had to stop swimming at my local indoor pool because it more often than not made my heart race. To be honest I'm scared to swim now. In my early thirties I used to train twice a week there.
Thanks Jean I will. No he didn’t do anything. He sat there smiling, saying he hadn’t a clue, and would have to talk to his doc mate at the hospital. Didn’t fill me full of confidence really! Lol.
Since you are properly anticoagulated (so long as you take your Riovaroxaban with a proper meal of course) I doubt you need to worry. I often wake up in the night , turn over and smash myself in the face with a dead arm. All goes back to a neck injury about 40 years ago. Similarly when watching TV in my recliner it can happen. A quick massage usually sorts it in seconds.
I have been told by my pharmacist and by the doc and cardiologist only the xeralto 20 mg needs to be taken with fat and food , the 20 mg does not , I wanted to switch to the 10 for that reason but have been told that for Adobe that the 20 is the dose best suited as well as when in hospital after my knee replacements ( that was the one of choice ( the did stop it for a few days before and after then resumed ,
I would have been worried in your position and done the same as you. Do hope it all turns out to be nothing of significance. Will be interesting to hear !
That’s not moaning! I would have been worried too - and I’d have panicked and obsessed about it, which you don’t sound to be doing 😊
Sounds like you did everything right, and your doctors response is properly reassuring. Good that they’re double checking at the TIA clinic, but hopefully it’s nothing of the sort. Do let us know, won’t you? X
Anyone would be I think :)I feel for you, it’s so worrying not knowing isn’t it?
But for me I’d be reassured by my GP being so unconcerned about it, and clearly not thinking its something serious like a stroke. Any red flags to him, he would have responded very differently.
Hope you can have more definitive reassurance soon too Xx
Definitely not moaning and TBH if it were me I'd have been straight to A and E! I'm guessing it's some type of neuro issue. The important thing is to follow it up and not be fobbed off because this has happened suddenly and that means something has changed. Keep us posted.
That surprised me as you were doing exercise at the time. Like Bob I have had the same in bed due to leaning on it and stopping the circulation and that is disconcerting enough. Could it be due to a trapped nerve??
Hopefully doctor will get it sorted out soon.I always get a dead arm if I sleep on my left shoulder. Since taking the usual heart meds this has happened more frequently. Not sure if there is a connection tho? A quick roll over does the trick and back to normal in a few minutes.
Sounds like a one off., but you did the right thing straight away, going to the right sources. I have had a suspicion of a TIA before, traced it back to the obvious source. Overdosed on a tablet i had taken twice. So go back to the most obvious cause. Pinched nerve maybe. I swim a lot. Can't say ive had thatbefore but as long as your on blood thinners, you should be safe from stroke. Either way cover all bases in checking it out
You did the right thing and are protected with your meds. What swim stroke were you doing ? I was advised to not do breaststroke as I have problems with my neck and it could cause similar problems.
Was doing the breaststroke and a sort of side stroke, which seemed to be easier on the shoulder I broke earlier in the year. You never know though. Thanks wilsond.
S.ounfds like you nee a CT or MRI of head and a Doppler of your of your neck. But hopefully they would be normal and I was trained to rule out worst case scenarios first.
Something similar happened to me once, years ago. I was just walking down some steps and my left arm went completely dead. Yes, I panicked too. After a short while the feeling came back. I put it down to either an old neck injury or asthma and over-ventilating. I was suffering quite badly with asthma at the time. It never happened again, although I have had odd incidents when that old injury plays up and affects my arm. Good luck.. it would have been very scary, so best to rule out anything more serious.
Hi Cha275rLI've had that experience sometimes when I wake up in bed. My arm or leg is completely dead and I can't feel a thing. It is as if it is not there. I move it around for a few minutes and the feeling comes back. I haven't a clue what it is and as it only happens occasionally I am not too bothered. Hope this helps.
