Exercise

For many of us who worry about exercise. A new study reported in the New York Times, on CNN, CNBC, and many other places, states that just 11 minutes of moderate exercise a day is enough. Walking for 11 minutes or anything not over strenuous seems to be fine. That's nice to know as I can't do anything strenuous now but I can still do light aerobic and stretching and walk. 👍

If you have access to a Nature walk even better for more relaxation.

There are a few places to nature walk but have to drive to get to them. There's a place called Lake Woodruff Refuge but it's a ways from where I live. I've been there a couple times. Lots of wild life. And alligators (I'm in Florida). Saw a huge alligator there one time. Must have been 15 feet long. I decided to go home 😂Have a nice day.

I gardened for about 2/3 hours a day for about 9/10 months of the year - well I did before my hips packed up then I was forced to reduce it to 1/2 hours. After I stopped dancing when I was 60 I was worried I wasn't getting enough exercise as the dance I performed and taught was very dynamic and I was used to really working my heart and lungs . The gardening just did not seem to me like excercise by comparison. I asked my GP about this and he said the gardening was good enough. It was moving about that counted . Even housework counts towards exercise.

I think you're right. I think cleaning house is good exercise. There are exercises one can do sitting in a chair. You were a dance teacher? Oh how I could have used you years ago. I have always had what we call "two left feet". But I'm sure in dancing you know that saying. I have never learned even the simple two step. 😂 But I always enjoyed others dancing. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were before my time, but occasionally I'll see an old movie on TV of theirs. They made dancing look like it was so easy. Of course it's not. They were so graceful and just flowed with the music. I did read old interviews Ginger Rogers gave and she said it was not as easy as it looked. It was hard work. And her feet suffered so wearing heels to dance in all the time. Plus Fred Astaire was not always so nice. 😣 Sorry you can't garden as much. You seem to really enjoy it. I've seen pictures of gardens in the UK and they are so pretty. Have a great rest of your day.

I walk about 5 miles a day with my dog, and last week missed a day to catch up with house work. 1.9 miles cleaning the house!

I don't think we realize how much we walk back and forth cleaning house. It's a good workout! Have a great day!

That's lots of exercise. Just think if you took statins you might be one of the poor sods that get such bad leg pain you couldn't walk 500 metres.

The dance form I practiced- Bharatanatyam -is nothing like western dancing. It is the classical dance form of South India and is the oldest classical dance in the world. It is done barefoot and solo or in groups but without partners. As far as walzes and foxtrots are concerned I too have two left feet! I am hoping to get back to gardening when the weather improves. At the moment it is vile! I can feel that my new hip is solid when I walk and today the physio made me walk a bit with no stick at all to see if I could. It is so long since I walked normally my gait is all wrong so I have to correct that.

Never heard of that dance. Well I'm not exactly knowledgeable about dances. I've probably seen it on TV not knowing what it was. I would assume if you could do any dance you could waltz or foxtrot. Shows how much I don't know. 😕 But at least I'm not alone with two left feet. 😂

Hope your hip improves soon. Always hard when we have something else to bog us down. And hope your weather turns nice so you can get back to your gardening. Take care.🙏

It is not well known in the west outside of the Indian diaspora. There's loads on YouTube.

I'll look it up. Oh my goodness! How graceful the dance is. It reminds me of gymnastics in a way. It is so precise. I watched some video of a dance. And read some about it. A good posture seems a key and good leg muscles with all the bending involved. Seems knee injury is pretty common. I can see why that would be after watching the video. And it said it can take years to learn to do it correctly. And the dance tells a story. Impressive.

I play Pickleball for hour and a half most days. I am addicted. I am 80 years old and have been active most of my life. I have to remind myself to drink water .. I too am on a diet as I have put on Covid pounds. I started with the Keto diet but I read in articles on line that it is not a good diet for A Fib, since we are all electry compromised.

Are you in the UK? I'm in the USA and I'm certain that people in the UK are healthier🤔😊. There is a holistic cardiologist Dr in Arizona. He stresses the Paleo diet. He wrote a book, "The Paleo Cardiologist". It's a strict diet but I don't think one has to be quite that strict. No sugar. Lots of fresh vegetables. Fresh fruit. Organic. I don't follow it as strict. But I feel better since I started eating as close as I can to the diet. I think you can find his book on Amazon or go to his website. He only charges S&H on his website to buy his book. His name is Dr. Jack Wolfson. I believe his website is drswolfsons.com. Maybe you've already heard of him. His book is geared towards those who have Afib. I'm only 68 and you run circles around me. 😌. Good for you. Yes. Remember to drink water. 😉. Take care .

Thank you for replying. I changed to the Mediterranean diet. I am a snow bird winter in SunLakes Az and summers in Oregon.I am really taking out sugar and flour.

Yes, drinking water is difficult for me. Thanks for reminder

Oh. I've heard it really gets hot in Arizona in the summers. I use stevia in place of sugar. I've read some people here use date sugar. I've never tried it. I use very little stevia. I switched to almond flour. Works for what I use it for. I like pancakes once in awhile and use it to make them. I also use the sugar free natural jams. Once again just a little. I used to be a sweets junkie but now I don't miss it.

Take care.
