Welp, karma got me. I enjoyed a few drinks last night with friends (and when I say a few I mean A FEW, maybe 2 small glasses of wine), and woke up to tachycardia. Not SVT, but my heart is racing. I took my metoprolol and it is seemingly getting better but I apparently underestimated how low my tolerance is for alcohol because I am currently trying to keep my stomach contents inside my stomach. Lesson learned, no more alcohol for me.

Wine usually contains sulphites, which can trigger AF. I did buy some sulphite free wine once from Sainsbury's, but guess other large stores may also possibly sell it . I noticed some liquorice I had the other day contained it too.

I'm another person who always has to learn things the hard way.

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year.

Jean

Oh dear ! Hope you are feeling better. Definitely not encouraging you to drink but a “normal” person having enough wine to disagree with them would have a racing heart . I like champagne but one glass of cava would have the effect on me you are having. As Jean said sulphites tend to be the culprit if you are sensitive to them . I actually went to wine tasting classes not only to find out what I liked but what I should avoid . It’s miserable. Happy New Year !

Sad but very interesting...

I've been trying to figure out why alcohol doesn't appear to be a trigger for me. From your posting I now wonder if it's because I never drink wine other than an occasional splash of vermouth in cocktails as my drinks of choice are hard liquors in moderation or occasionally a strong ale. Any thoughts on this?

Before my ablation alcohol never was a problem, I mean it always raised my heart rate but it never triggered any SVT episodes. I really think that yesterday was just because I have not drank since before my ablation (almost 6 months ago) and my tolerance for alcohol is completely gone. I also am on two medications that you should not drink on.

Alcohol has not been a trigger for me but it does raise my heart rate now I am not on any beat regulator or rate reducing drugs. I am now committed to never drinking a lot again, but not tee total so far
