Hi all, I have a diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation (about 6 months ago) , I was recently heart stress tested which did nothing particularly, no symptoms, that was until several hours later when I was really ill for three days then back to normal. Ive noticed now that following any significant walking (1 mile or more) My question is does anyone else have this whereby they can walk for quite a while, feeling a little tired but not actually going into AF, but then from 4 to 8 hours later going into a bad episode of AF? Ive noticed that this is a pattern. Thanks for your replies..and Happy New year to all members.

Delayed symptoms to walking /exercise
How interesting! I have noticed, what you are talking about, pretty long ago! My longest delay between physical exertion and arrhythmia bout, was about 15 hours. But in my case, I suspect to have had ventricular tachycardia for a short time, so not diagnosed.
yes, i really struggled to get a diagnosis in the first place, went to the GP who refused to believe me and argued that i was just anxious, then he checked it with three different devices, and finally the old fashoined way with his fingers and a watch and said,,you have an irregualr pulse..I had to go back again several times and he still wouldnt have it, it had to get really bad and I got hospitalised many times, now im medicated it is better than it was, that said i still have really bad days, waiting to see about ablation at the moment, i hope you get it sorted, if it returns, untreated is not good as Im sure you are aware...thanks for the reply anyway and all the best for the new year
Sounds like your AF is vagally mediated; don't expect regular medics to acknowledge the influence of the Vagus Nerve though. You can read all about it on this forum and of course by Googling. Suggest, until you know more, cut down your exercise to half a mile and do it twice in the day and don't sit down straightaway i.e. smooth out exertion as too much followed immediately by sitting down with a cup of tea used to trigger my AF.
I think you will find that a lot of us exercise types with AF find that it comes on several hours after exercise when sitting quietly or in bed. I find that after cycling. I now avoid hard cycles and have an e-bike. I have found that I can get back to NSR the next day by getting back on the bike and cycling up a hill.
How do you get on with your E bike?
Brilliant. A great help. Takes the pressure off on hills and at the end of rides when tired. Every one should be given one free by the government when they are 70! Keeps you up with the younger riders on hills and means I am able to carry on doing club rides and cycle touring. Mine is a Ribble but lots around now.
