dehydration and Afib etc.

I had an unwelcome brush with A. and E. yesterday due to episodes of faintness and heart going potty.

I got ACE treatment but of course was scared stiff of catching Covid in spite of all the precautions in place.

Outcome.......meds. probably need some tweaking and I was pretty dehydrated'!! This last bit took me completely surprise. All the bloods came bad as good including electrolytes .

Trying now how to fathom how much water to drink allowing for the consideration that pee checks always seem ok.

Grossly swollen legs prob. at the minute means I await an appoint. with Vasculat surgeons ......perhaps some connection?

I would welcome advice.

Two litres a day. More in warm weather.

Thanks Bob .I have just realised that the glass I use for my 'constant' water drinks is not the size of a tumbler.....in fact about half the size......It is a 'large' whiskey glassso squat and therefore misleadingly looks as if it has a lot in it(never whiskey!) So I have corrected that.

Just a thought, probably a mad one, if the fluid is settling in your legs the rest of the body could be dehydrated? I assume the swollen legs are a problem with local circulation?

Thanks Buffafly for your thought. No idea other than to say I will raise that with my GP when I next speak to him. I have had 'incrmental' swollen legs for a long time but it always disappeared after a few hot weeks in summer. .... now beyond a joke and so uncomfortable .I am not over weight.....a mere 59 kilos and c 5ft 2 or 3.It may be the Vascular Surgeons will now get a move on in giving me an appoint. following the A. and E. visit yesterday.

I have a pint of water warmed up slightly n the micro wave on rising. I had a spell of gently falling over last year and managed to see my cardiologist fairly quickly. I was told to drink about 5 pints of fluids a day and to make sure that I consumed some salt every day as it is an electrolyte.

The events used to tend to occur after coming back from a walk of about 5-6 miles. We used to return, consult fitbits, discuss next expedition and then, on an irregular basis fall down slowly, inspect the pavement and get up again.

After a few events this got to be a bit like a last of the summer wine episode. 'He's not paying attention again ', 'Is it his turn to get the teas in', ' Don't worry madam, he's a pavement inspector'. 'no point in trying to find his wallet, we haven't got the combination key'. Etc.

This was followed by the ultimate ' If you don't go and see the doctor 'WE WILL TELL YOUR WIFE'.
