AFib.indigestion and vagaus nerve.

I started to have some trapped wind in my stomach a few weeks ago after eating but not all the time and most often with meals.I do not eat big meals even for a main meal so quantity and/or gobbling is not a problem. Then about 3 weeks ago I started to get quite unexpected and daily palpitations.I have perm afib. with only very rare and short 'attacks' of palps.Another problem has led me to the local hospital where they decided to change my meds. for afib. on account of the new palps plus other tweeks.I also had a thorough questioning re. heart and the consultant....not cardiac but quite impressive.... has now refered me for an echo. but not until mid january. My previous echo. in Nov. 2018 had been pretty good and better than expected so......JUST wondering if this might be a vagus nerve problem although mostly the annoying new palps. development occur mid morning and not directly after eating.

Any ideas anyone.?All views and opinions welcome.

I have increased ectopics and palpitation sometimes after eating. Especially after eating too much or products that are acidic or have bubbles. I do believe that it is due to the vagal heart/stomach connections.

Just a thought. Might you have a hiatus hernia? These can be sliding in that they move out and back in. They can cause burping, indigestion and sometimes heartburn. If you check out York Cardiologist on YouTube he's done a post about this - how the herniated stomach presses on the back of the heart and might trigger AF. HH is very common condition and lots of people have it without knowing.

Always good to know one doesn't have something 😉 the AF is bad enough!

Eating a big meal used to be one of my main AF triggers and even now if I eat a little more than I should I can feel a few mild palpitations , a simple warning and reminder to me to give my medication the chance to do its job!

Thanks but I am quite a small eater and it can happen with a snack of say egg on toast.

Have you tried eliminating fodmaps? These foods ferment and cause wind and bloating. I'm trying it and it seems to be working for me.

Hi 10gingercats - bloating after food triggering AF has always been my biggest AF trigger - although much improved following treatment for H.Pylori ( a common stomach bacteria) diagnosed by blood test .The gastric / cardiac interaction is recognised more and more nowadays- look up Roemheld Syndrome - very interesting . Hope this helps Cathy.

Thank you.I donot get bloated thank goodness...... trapped wind in stamach that takes a while to shift and it is v. uncomfoprtable. Never had it until very recently.Sorting something else out medically at the moment but will put it on the list for attention.And....will look up Roemsheld syndrome too!
