My Afib journey was one of ignorance...didn't know why I was having these odd episodes of rapid or uneven heartbeats, the occasional breathlessness at the top of the stairs, and though I ignored them for months, when I mentioned being out of breathe to my Dr. we went with pulmonary checkups - nothing wrong there. By the next year it was happening more often and one day as I was walking with a friend at the gym. I mentioned this odd heart rate and erratic beats. Being a nurse, she encouraged me to get it checked out, and this time I was sent to cardiologist. All seemed normal but based on my experience was sent to the EP and on the visit when I was to have EKG, arrived there in Afib...the nurse was somewhat startled when she couldn't get my BP and called in another nurse. That brought about the Holter monitor for a week during which I was in Afib 70% of the time! The ablation was scheduled for the next opening in 2 months; all went well although I did have the pericarditis tightness and had to call for Rx. Two years later just cleared for shoulder replacement; everything going well. Still taking elliquis and mtoprolol , still have a higher than normal HR of 88- 113, but no more wacky heartbeats!
