I have paroxysmal AF, take Rivaroxaban, and am about to have an inguinal hernia repair. Anyone had any issues with this procedure?

Normal process withDOACs such as RIvaroxaban is to miss the one the night before unless other wise instructed and start again next morning. What has your surgeon told you to do?

Thanks for that. Surgeon wants me to stop Rivaroxaban 3 days before op.

Thanks for the advice. I take co codamol very occasionally for back pain and get instant constipation.

Same with me. The cure was worse than the pain!😖

Yes this happens. Anything with Co means codeine and this can cause constipation so a good idea to take a stool softener if this is the only pain killer that will work for you. Infact with hernia might be a good idea to take a stool softener so that you don't strain after the op. I have had two hernias and took stool softeners afterwards.

Your clinicians will advise you when to stop and restart anticoagulants. As to the procedure, I had a keyhole mesh repair for bilateral inguinal and a covert femoral hernias, and I walked a mile on the following day. The surgeon was Mr Tony Dixon of whom there has been much bad press. The CTC would not pay for an op. and would only offer a truss and "wait and watch". The femoral hernia was only discovered during surgery; if it had of been found beforehand it would have been emergency surgery. I had the three hernias from maxing out a leg press machine with part squat reps at 220kg. I didn't do that again!

Thanks for that. I got my hernia by doing strenuous core strengthening exercises designed to relieve back pain but they failed so I ended up with two problems!

I had an Inguinal hernia done last year and also have PAF, I listened very carefully to my instructions given over the phone ( did have a pre-op 2 months before but the hospital dept closed down, it was a private one used by the NHS ) , I wrote down in my diary exactly when I should stop my Rivaroxaban to eliminate that aspect of worry. Like the advice above , I drank prune juice as if it was water and also took the bowel soften given to me along with painkillers, so that was OK. Such a relief to have it done and 12 months on it has made such a difference. Wishing you well.
