Interesting cuore :-) I have only scanned the article quickly but it would seem that some people are predisposed to have less successful outcomes when they have an ablation...

Yes. That's what the literature is revealing.

Really really interesting. Thanks for posting.

A small study of 102 patients but 40% with this variant is a lot and might explain why why some of us need more than one ablation.

It does not seem to say how much lower the incidence of arrhythmia- free survival was in the carriers I think?

Am I right?

"The median follow-up was 27 months, at which time arrhythmia-free survival was lower in carriers versus non-carriers......

Based on these data, carriers of the rs2200733 single nucleotide variant have electrophysiological characteristics that affect the outcomes of atrial fibrillation ablation and shorten arrhythmia-free survival"

I would suggest scrolling down to RESULTS where a statistic is given:

"At follow-up (median: 27 months; range 19 to 31 months), carriers had lower arrhythmia-free survival (51% vs. 80%)"

That's a 29% difference which for me is considerable. It makes me feel better that my indulgent life-style wasn't totally to blame.

Brilliant thanks!

At first reading (without referring to a dictionary), this looks like a really exciting step towards identifying genetic markers in people with AF. Younger members will probably see many different approaches to dealing with AF in the future, perhaps even treatment based on genetic engineering.

Thank you for the link.
