Hi Everyone. I was asked by my physician and cardiologist to completely stop bisoprolol 2.5mg immediately as I was having allergic asthma . Have stopped it three days back but today had intense HR and visited the cardiologist. She prescribed Cardizam 30mg and said to take as need be. I have no heart issues but was prescribed this bisoprolol wrongly by a previous cardiologist. Took it for 5 months and had lot of fatigue, cramping, felt put of focus, depression, anxiety and now lung inflammation. Can someone please tell me how long does it take for the effect to completely go away if taking bisoprolol 2.5mg is stopped immediately. Thankyou for your support.
Bisoprolol stopped: Hi Everyone. I was... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Bisoprolol stopped
I stopped 1.25mg bisoprolol and had high heart rate, on occasion really racing, tachycardia, and generally felt odd. This gradually dissipated over the next three-four months. I was surprised at how long it took but feel absolutely fine now. Best of luck.
I took 1.25 mg bisoprolol for three days when I consulted the pharmacist who had shown concern as to how I got on with the newly prescribed drugs (unlike the doctor) I was feeling tired so he took my pulse and told me to stop taking it immediately and he must have told the doctor who agreed- the lowest dose brought my hr down dangerously low! We are all different but doctors tend to treat us all the same- Good luck with finding what works for you. I only take bisoprolol now when having an AF episode to back up the flecainide I take as a PIP!
I was fast asleep in 40 mins after taking every 1.25 bisop poll. I awoke 4 to 5 hours later feeling well drugged, pain in my arms and upper chest, very tired max HR approx 117bpm resting hr 45 ish. I did 7 days and said stuff that, went to.my GP who agreed and put my on Atenolol another beta blocker. Stoped one started the other. That was much better But still sh1t, was always tired but went to work for 4 or 5 hours a day. Went home and slept. Did this 14 days
We nt back to gp. She said possibly I m intolerant to beta blockers so try verapamil a calcium channel blocker. I swapped over after 2 or 3 days reduced Atenolol dose. No issues. Verapamil no side effects . Brilliant for 2 0 months but my afib progressed and it could not control the rate anymore, so drugs regime got worse but thats another story.
Moral is if the drugs make you feel sh1t swap them until something works for YOU. If nothing works choose the least bad whilst you plan the next step. It's YOUR life.
Best wishes.
Gosh, you were even more sensitive to the biso than I was - what a pity doctors generally take so little notice and expect us all to be the same, ignoring us if we aren't and drug companies still basing most drugs and dosages on what suits the average male!
Looking back it is quite comical. I had my first big attack 165 resting HR, although asymptomatic, and was kept in hospital overnight. I came out if afib after 36 hours on my own. so the doctors decided to prescribe bisoprolol 1.25mg only (luckily) and discharge me so a doctor and a nurse gave me a bisoprol pill and said swallow that, we will get you prescription for on going and discharge you after you see the consultant. So I was reading a magazine. Next thing I am being shaken awake by the nurse and the doctor, and a consultant cardiologist is with them. Its 2 hours later, I was so zonked on the bisop I did not know where I was, I could not remember , I could not speak , and I could not understand what the obviously irate consultant was saying to me. It was like I was in a dream. Then he stormed off. Obviously not realising his prescription had done me in! It took me another 2 hours before I get myself together enough to get dressed and then sort out a taxi!
When I had the next pill - bang out again. And exercise II could only run 100 yards. I was lucky as I knew the week before afib, I could run 6 in miles in 48 minutes, and as i was not in afib anyway why could I not run? As I was also asymptomatic in afib it was obvious even to an ignorant newbie like me that it was the drugs.
My wife said I should have complained about the lack of comprehension of what they did to me, but a few months later I was actually very happy that the consultant was wise enough that he started me on 1.25mg as when I realised what doses others were started on, I am not sure I would have ever woken up!
Plus we are all so different, others are very happy on bisop, so its difficult for the doctors to know where to start.
Anyway good luck with your journey.
