Driving

When I had my Pacemaker/Defib implanted in Sept '16 I was told by my Cardiologist that I was not allowed to drive for 6 months.

When the Defib gave me 6 shocks in July '19 I was once again told not to drive for 6 months, the end of this period coincided with the renewal of my license in January '20.

When I applied to renew my licence at the end of Jan '20, the DVLA refused after contacting the cardiologist as apparently I had received ATP pacing in January.

Now 6 months on I want to reapply again but have been told by the Pacemaker clinic that I have once again received ATP pacing!!

I can't win!!

So were you totally unaware that you had received the ATP pacing. You didn't feel anything at all?

Difficult to say for sure, I've felt something at times but not sure if it was ATP.

I know that the 2 reasons for DVLA to refuse a licence are:-

If you receive appropriate ATP or if you receive 1 or more appropriate shocks,

6 months loss of licence.

I you loose consciousness in either case,

2 years loss of licence

I feel for you, must be awful not being able to drive after having done so. Have you ever lost consciousness?

No, I've never lost consciousness, even after receiving 6 shocks in a row at about 22.30 in the evening - Sept '19.

My Cardioverter is on home monitoring from Germany, and they contact Raigmore hospital who contact me to enquire after my health.

I had an episode in January '20 when, feeling fine, I entered the local Lidle and their security device at the entrance effected my PM and my heart rate shot up to about 160 and just stayed there, I drove home and eventually dialled 999 and was taken to Raigmore, before they could treat me my rate suddenly reverted to a normal 70!

On 30 July '20 I received a call from Raigmore to tell me that I had about 5 instances of ATP during the month.

I've got an appointment on 12th Aug so maybe I can get a bit more info,
