Good days.

hey just wanted to share a bit of good news. About 3 weeks ago my heart rate was way up in the 140+ even at rest. Result was Bisoprolol was increased to 7.5mg and I have felt pretty good since. Getting out and about and doing a bit of walking albeit short distances. Purchased a mobility scooter so I can go with partner on longer 'walks' and life was feeling as good as I have been since January. Then about four days ago I began to get flutters and spikes of raised heart rate spoke with cardio nurse now on 10mg of Bisoprolol and once again feeling good. Still not able to do much and get very tired but sat down the beach yesterday watching my son in the sea with my great grandchild and then took her to the park today. She is 6yrs so understands I can't push her much but just being there is enough for me. I am gradually accepting that this is my life now and trying to just enjoy the simple things. Xx

Thats really great. Once we know what triggers the AF than adapting to that is the best solution rather than being resentful. Best wishes. And lots of +ve vibes

I'm not surprised you feel tired on 10mg bisoprolol, I was a total zombie on that but glad you are feeling otherwise well

I know how you feel but 3 years ago I was on 10 mg of bisoprolol then I had a lifestyle change lost weight cut out fatty food etc after I lost the weight I had to drop to 2.5 and only yesterday I am now on 1.25.... but Ido take 1.25 of digoxin

Thats interesting. How did your doctor know shen to bring your dosage down. I did well on digoxin but was quite nauseas so came off it. I do wonder if the bisoprol could be reduced later on. Xx

I did it myself by reading my heart rate then spoke to the arithma nurse at the hospital she said good result after given her my readings. she also told me I should be able to drop one of the two.. 1.25 digoxin now 1.25 bisoprolol down from 10 mg 3years ago also just a note been out all day today lunch with wife then went sea fishing on the beach in Teignmouth until 10 . 20 never felt better took heart rate tonight at home and was 78 bpm so getting lifestyle better you can maybe reduce meds

I agree re doctors as feel they are feeling about in the dark and just guessing. I eas pretty fit before the heart failure I have nonischemic cardiomyopopthy (enlarged heart) but no blocked or furred up arteries as well as perm afib and never sure what causes what. I swam 4-5 times a week around 40-60 lengths, pilates x 2 and walked a great deal with occasional aquafit.i am overweight could do with losing 3stone. I have put on 1.5st since illness, hardly any exercise as sends heart rate soaring. I do eat fairly healthy diet cook from scratch, plenty fruit and veg not a lot of bread or cakes, little pastry or potatoes, fish and chicken my main food and drink water 3-4 glasses a day. I am doing anything between 5-7000 steps a day and trying to build up but tire or get sore very quickly. I tend to get tense stiffness around my shoulder area that can be quite debillitating but being told it is nothing to do with illness. Hsve had a good few weeks even with meds being increased and some flutters, spiking and had a couple of days at the beach and managed some time in garden but yesterday again my heart rate up around 140 a couple of times. Sorry for ramble but do so want more of these times. Looking forward to swimming again. Xx

I have an enlarged left atrium and this predisposes me to AF. My ablation nine months ago has dealt with the AF (for NOW) though I have had bouts of flutter. I am quite slim and watch my weight because I am very clear that being overweight is problem for those with AF. Work hard to reduce your weight and it may be that you will feel MUCH better. Use smaller plates- cut down the quantity of food you eat and you will see your weight reduce.

I need to do more exercise!!! I’ve begun to realise how important lifestyle is by reading the posts here.

I wish you well on your journey to improve your health.
