Hi, I don't have the skills/experience to judge what is best, BUT, for what I needed at the price I was prepared to pay I chose a Garmin Forerunner 35. You may like to check this out on the Garmin website. The main features I wanted were HR, sleep and time. Anything else it provides is a bonus and is there if I choose to use it.

One thing though in my view data from these bits of tech. should only be used as a guide as opposed to producing data set in tablets of stone! If I wanted data more accurate and meaningful I'd use other items of tech that I only keep at home, i.e. BP monitor which will tell me ( amongst other things) if I am in AF and/or my portable ECG device.

Avoid the FitBit 3. On second in 6 months and display has lines through it. Older FitBit 2 is still going strong and does HR, steps, and time fine.

Thanks !

I’ve avoided the Fit Bit after the first one I had 4 years ago , when I went swimming with it on ! They weren’t waterproof then ! !

I can't tell you which is best but I can say with certainty what major name to stay away from for this purpose; (said in Darth Vader serious whisper);

Stay away from Fitbit!

I like the Apple iWatch but I have all Apple products so everything is seamless but do avoid series 3 as the screen is prone to a fault which causes the screen to crack.

I also had Fitbit for a while which was I think more accurate but went through 3 of them in 12months as the build was terrible but that was some years ago now.

Those aren’t the only 2 on the market and I believe Garmin have an excellent reputation.

I tend to go to Which for any reliable comparisons

I can't judge which is the best watch for this, but I will say that all those watches that use a little green light flashing on the back work the same way. They also have a light sensitive cell and pick up the variation in colour of your skin as the heart beat swells the capillary blood vessels there, and from that derive the pulse rate. To level out these variations and make sense of them they have to filter the results through an algorithm which limits the readings to 'normal range' and regularity. Also, when in AF, not all your heart beats swell the blood vessels evenly. Ergo; they do not accurately measure pulse rate when in AF. My Fitbit Charge2 would show high 70's when in AF while my heart danced around at 150 - 180 bpm.

Hi momist

My doctor told me a while ago that the watches would not record if the heart rate went very high Which seems to have happened to you!

I wonder if anyone else has experience of this?

Thanks for the info

My watch (MiBand 4) uses green light technology and is reasonably accurate against a Kardia in NSR but way out in fast AF.
