Yes, my husband was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis Jan 2019. He has had mild Af episodes for about 6 years.

No. There was some discussion as to which was the cause & which the symptom so decided that for him the best option was to see if NSR could be established. TAVII was discussed but considered high risk as he also has Mitral Valve regurgitation from childhood Diptheria. At 86 it was thought that invasive surgery was to be avoided, if at all possible.

Angiogram proved clear so he then had cardioversion but that failed and of course ruled out ablation. His only option was Amiodarone- which established NSR in June 2019 & been maintained since. EF went from 33% to 55% & aortic stenosis disappeared.

His QOL has improved & is now well & active again.

I am glad to hear he is well again.

What was the reason or treatment for the stenosis to disappear.

I have had permanent A/F for 10 years without any symptoms but started to get short of breath going up hills and only this week the diagnosed the stenosis, and i have yet to hear from them.

I must admit it has got me worried

Reason for stenosis to ease - return to NSR. It was a question of which came first as stenosis can cause AF or AF could be the reason for the stenosis. My husband had been in occasional AF for about 10 years but persistent for only a few months. In his case they couldn’t be certain of how bad the stenosis was until he was in NSR.

What is your treatment plan? Which part of the world do you live in? I think it all depends upon the expertise and experience of the doctors you see so getting A referral to an expert team is important.

I was supposed to get an operation on Thursday at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle to fit the watchman device which lowers the risk of having a stoke in patients with a/f. I had a preop in February and an echogram and the the operation was set for March which was cancelled because of Covid.

The new date was July the 16th another short preop on the 14th.

On the 15th July at 18-00 they rang me up and said the operation was again cancelled because they found out i had mild stenosis by looking at the echogram which they took in February.

I have had no advice what do do and cant get an appointment with the doctor the phone is just ringing and no answer.

I am going up to the doctors this morning to see if i can sort something out.

Its worrying when you dont know what to do.

Thanks again for the reply, it eases the stress.

It’s the lack of communication & information which is concerning. Sometimes I think you need to push a little, don’t hang back or minimise your concerns. Ask your doctor to contact the cardiology dept asking for a treatment plan. Best wishes.

I have had AF since 2016 and in 2019 I was diagnosed with mild aortic stenosis. No medication for AS because it's mild and they don't treat mild AS, as no symptoms. I'd be interested to know what that EF (EF went from 33% to 55% & aortic stenosis disappeared) and QOL mean in your post and if your husband is still taking Amiodarone? I took Amiodarone and it messed up my thyroid after six months. I now take Flecainide and Diltiazem, plus a blood thinner.

Thanks for your reply. Hope hubby is doing well.

Amiodarone worked, no AF so stenosis lessened & he is still taking Amiodarone maintenance dose.
