Did you know that in 4 weeks 88% of blondes will have disappeared?

I may well be one of the first.....

Embrace the grey, so much less hassle ☺

Heheh. I've always had a full head of curly hair. Since I bought my clippers from Amazon and engaged in a 'do itself your job' I've got a mohican with bald patches AND turned grey.

However help is at hand. My Just for Men has just arrived from eBay. I'll be back to normal soon.

I'm investing in a new hat just in case there's a problem ;-)

Many ladies tend to attend to their hair colour by visiting the hairdresser 💇‍♀️ to have their colour adjusted. When we cannot go, we revert to original colour.

Speaking entirely for myself - this is one of the more horrific consequences of lockdown - trivial for many I know but I’m not yet ready to embrace grey as my & neither is my husband as he tells me every time I go for a retouch the affect is very younging.

Auriculaire profile image
Auriculaire in reply to CDreamer

I was surprised when my husband's niece confessed that one of the worst things about lockdown was not being able to get her roots retouched. She is in her early forties . We have not seen her for about 4 years now as she does not come to France very often but she was complaining about an Indira Ghandi style grey streak appearing. This is how my own hair started to grey but with 2 streaks one on each side. I gave up and let nature take it's course 10 years ago and now have very a peculiar pattern with the hair at each side and underneath grey and dark hair still in the middle and on top.

Tako2009 profile image

Ha ha - I'm still blonde-ish at the moment but the lockdown does seem to be affecting my hair colour - fringe is almost completely grey/white now and I seem to have developed white streaks in among my normal 'faded blonde/salt and pepper'. I'm hoping the grey accelerates and covers it all up before I come out of quarantine!!

More worried about the style to be honest - i am definitely suffering from 'lockdown hair syndrome' - hair is now much too long and 'all over the place' - think, dragged through a hedge backwards - I had a go at the fringe last week and I think that was probably a mistake - the only good thing is nobody can see it except my hubby - LOL!

Keep smiling all and keep safe xx

Ha ha, I was one step ahead there and bought a colour just before lock down. Will get hubby to do my roots for me, he’s quite artistic.

You’re the second person today who said their husband colours their hair - not sure I want to give him the power.

Stay well.

Good heavens! My husband colouring my hair doesn't bear thinking about 😨 I shall resort to bandanas etc to cover my roots and maintain a blonde illusion .....

Haha he really is quite good at it although I do seem to get a good bit of my neck and face done too 🤣

Ha ha yes just got my Colin to do my roots, he even managed to pick out the blond streaks and foil them up, how artistic is that? Saved me £60, think I might continue to employ him , payment given in home baked buns 🤣😂

My wife does hers regularly and will never change. Been naturally grey since early twenties as now one of my boys. The grey is in the jeans. ( no spelling error).

I've always done my own hair colouring and by chance bought 6 of my usual colour before lockdown

My husband can do my hair at the back if neccesary but I'm pretty good at doing it myself I could not bear to be anything than blonde

Well... My Ash blonde is uncannily close to the silvery grey roots coming through. So methinks I will go eau naturelle. Save myself a few pounds! Or I may change my mind once this is all over and go for a lovely shade of lilac 😊

Not us true blonds though, well I was, getting more white as I age!! My hairdresser tells me that people pay her a lot of money to get their hair my colour. I'm just lucky I suppose.

My daughter is a natural blonde, and now her hair is bright pink and electric blue, so I think your estimate may be low 😁

I lost most of my hair through the side effect of long term dieting (three and a half stone) so had to buy a wig just before lockdown. I have never looked so good or had so many complements as l am now a svelte non changing blonde with no hair dressing problems.

Tapanac profile image
Tapanac in reply to Peterpan37

I would be very interested to know where you bought your wig if you don't mind saying as since my brain tumour surgery, although I have hair still, it's not like it used to be and very thin and straggly. Is it hot to wear?

MydogBrandy profile image
MydogBrandy in reply to Tapanac

Saw your post, Hot Hair have got a sale on at the moment. Delivery is normally £5.95 which I think is dear but every so often they do free delivery. Check VoucherCodes too. Amazon have some too and if you get one from there and it says fulfilled by Amazon you will get free returns . Good luck x

So far during sunny weather everything ok and wig very thin and light. Best to gain info by watching you tube sites on wig wearing etc. Simply wigs excellent for buying and photos of normal people wearing wigs. Best thing I ever did. Hope this helps.

If you try Amazon first it’s free delivery usually and free returns so you can find which style suits you best at home. I tried some..... what a laugh with some of them. I bought one to put on at home when I can’t be bothered to use my heated rollers in a morning. For hygiene reasons wig companies ask you to use wig caps when trying them.which is very fair I think, they are really cheap on Amazon.

Peterpan37 profile image
Peterpan37 in reply to Tapanac

When l first started l was lucky that the lady who was a hairdresser came to me with loads of wigs so that l could try on and find a style and colour that suited me. She then ordered my choice. Unfortunately with the lockdown at the moment, that system , or going to a shop that sells wigs Is out of the question. Buying on line is your only choice other than Maybe contacting A local wigbank for people who have problems with hair loss. Most area have one consisting of donated wigs. Read about it on Simply wigs site. It might be a temporary solution for you. I know how you must feel.Horrible isn’t it !

So I’ve not attempted home dye. I have balayage. Natural hair brown. How do I go about colouring as if I go dark it gets rid of blonde and if I try to go light it will prob turn an unpleasant shade. Any recommendations gratefully received!

MydogBrandy profile image
MydogBrandy in reply to JaneN40

What colour do you want to be? If you are brown going a shade darker a shade at a time till you find colour you want or go lighter a shade at a time.I'm not a hairdresser but this is how I have always done it. DON’T get to light blonde and try to go dark brown it will go green😂that’s when you need a hairdresser because they have to mix a red tint or something to enable you to go from light blonde to dark brown. when I was younger I went from platinum blonde to jet black😂 but didn’t risk doing that myself. I do use colours myself with my Colin’s help to do the back just to brighten myself up a shade at a time. I find Nice and Easy (I use the non permanent one)great and it is so easy. You can get it on Amazon for about £5.15. The conditioner that comes with it is wonderful.

I panic bought hair colour so I won’t be going grey just yet. I have, however, ordered thinning scissors from Amazon. They’re not predicted to arrive for another fortnight. I’ve worried myself by casting a questioning glance at my pinking shears.

Another natural blonde here, going white at the edges. Been touching it up at home for a few years ... saves a fortune and it’s very easy.

I posted the following on my Facebook page a few weeks ago ...

“I’ve never been so thankful to be low maintenance. No nails, no lashes, no crazy hair upkeep, no tanning, no botox. I’ll just be the same hot mess coming out of all this as I was going in.”

ETFCfan profile image

Love this. I am naturally grey now, have been for about 15 years and commented to my husband that I won’t be the odd one out at the pub where we go for a Sixties group every week in normal times. He asked what I meant and I told him every other lady my age there was blonde. He’s registered severely sight impaired and didn’t have a clue 😂.

I can’t be doing with colouring my hair - hate sitting in the hairdressers so greying naturally . However, I’d pay anything to get my hair cut by my favourite hairdresser🙁

I couldn't face going grey and my roots were sorely in need of treatment, so with the help of my dear OH I did my own with a box of home hair colour I managed to get with my online supermarket shopping ... result 😄

Trust you lol 😂

A “hot mess” as in “a person or thing that is spectacularly unsuccessful or disordered, especially one that is a source of peculiar fascination.”

But I do feel warm, and as for the hmmmmm ... that’s for you to guess and me to know lol 😂

How are you these days my young friend?

As a mere male without much hair left, I've never really understood the passion for women wanting to go blond! I find any natural hair colour more attractive than artificial colours. The only exception is where the hair does turn grey where using colourant to get back to the original colour is fine, in my books. But then I understand that hair, clothes etc are more designed to impress other women than men who tend not to notice these things!

Should I take shelter now? 😁

My grey roots coming through too. Was going to buy a self colouring kit but saw a spray for covering grey roots beside the kits and thought I'd give it a try. Works a treat. Am not ready to go grey yet and my husband isn't keen for me to go totally grey either just yet.

Hilly22 profile image

Good to hear you’re coping (just). At least you’ve kept your sense of humour along with your youthful mind.

We haven’t been out into the world since the 10th March due to husband’s age and underlying health conditions. We were planning to move house this month to somewhere with a smaller garden but glad we didn’t as the space has saved our sanity. Apart from the concern and sadness relating to “the subject” and some worrying weeks over my daughter, we have a lot to feel grateful for, not least that we’re happily married - I can’t imagine how it must be for people who aren’t. And being retired, so not having to worry about income. Making the most of it, crossing our fingers knowing everything could change in a flash.

Stay well you, and be good 😊
