Hi everyone.

My friend received a letter from the NHS telling him to self screen for 13 weeks. He is 58 and has copd.

I am 60 and have type 2 diabetes and af

I've moved house and if NHS have sent me a letter it may have gone to my old address?

I'm currently still going to work.

In your opinion should I be self screening?

I presume you mean self isolating in which case best to ask your doctor as you would appear to be high risk.

Hi Bob thanks for the reply. I rang the doctors surgery and they said the letters was nothing to do with them. Ring 111 and ask them but they are inundated with calls and I would be in a queue for over an hour.

Hi Tommo :-) all the information you need is on the Goverment site....

gov.uk/coronavirus

This is the the extremly vulnerable category who will have been sent a letter....

[Quote' 'People falling into this extremely vulnerable group include:

Solid organ transplant recipients.

People with specific cancers:

people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radical radiotherapy for lung cancer

people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment

people having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer

people having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors

people who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs

People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD.

People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cell).'']

......Many of us have conditions that we feel may make us more susceptible to having a severe reaction if we catch the C19 virus but we are not on the ' most vulnerable' list, we would be wise to make sure we take all recommended precautions.

Tommo :-) People with specific health conditions may find it helpful to look at dedicated sites like this one Diabetes UK to find additional information..

diabetes.org.uk/about_us/ne...

They often have thir own telephone helplines.

I understood people with diabetes should self isolate for 12 weeks. With or without a letter. Just to be safe.

Where did you hear that as my friend has diabetes and is staying home most of the time but is still going to the supermarket shopping she hasn’t had a letter nore has my othe diabetic friend and I have afib plus a few other health problems and I haven’t got a letter I was in fact praying I wouldn’t as I think if I get the virus I have a better chance of recovery so I think we should be grateful if we don’t get a letter keep safe

Sorry I don’t think you have that quite right as on the news it said letters will be going out to very vulnerable people and my own drs said they aren’t sending them out it’s being done through the government and the main nhs
