Hi Jfjfern :-) you must be the 20th person to ask this question and of course we are all concerned, Admin posted a thread on the subject here...

healthunlocked.com/afassoci...

[Quote= Admin ....''We understand that having AF or any arrhythmia does not put you in a higher risk category, or at an increased risk of contracting Coronavirus. However if you do contract the disease and have cardiovascular issues, diabetes or a lung condition or other chronic health issues, the symptoms may affect you more and may be more dangerous.'']

.

......I think we can best help ourselves by not catching the virus in the first place so making sure we stick to the Goverment Guidelines on socal distancing to give a degree of protection ....

gov.uk/government/publicati...

..... also to decide individually if our AF is particularly active and troublesome and if we feel we would be better having even less contact with other people.

I certainly don't need the Government or anyone else just common sense to tell me that in veiw of the fact I am having regular episodes of P-AF lasting many hours which causes me to be breathless, catching a respitory virus would not be a good thing so I need to take extra care .

I also have a respiratry condition and have been in self imposed isolation for a week and intend to stay here until I am told it is safe to come out however long that takes.

Can I suggest that you Google this afternoon’s briefing from the PM and his team. I think you are referring to the 1.5 million who will be receiving written advice telling them to remain indoors for at least the next 12 weeks. These are patients with cancer, have received organ transplants, have cystic fibrosis and are having dialysis but fortunately, AF wasn’t mention!

If I was you, I would follow doodler68’s advice because if you are not in the above group there are still things you should be doing to protect not only yourself, but those with whom you come into daily contact.

If you are offered a flu injection you are in the 12 week group. My daughter has asthma but doesn't qualify because she isn't offered the flu jab 😟

Many more than 1.5 million qualify for the flu jab.

As I understand it anyone who qualifies for the flu jab a d over 70 year olds should stay home as far as possible and the 1.5 million should stay home in isolation which is more extreme, referred to as shielding.

I think that it is common sense that if you are over 70 you should self isolate if you can just because of your age. We are both over 80 and are taking no chances by doing this because we choose to do so.😐

It is only the extremely vulnerable who are being written to.

People falling into this extremely vulnerable group include:

Solid organ transplant recipients

People with specific cancers:

People with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radical radiotherapy for lung cancer

People with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment

People having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer

People having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors

People who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs

People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD.

People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cell).

People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection.

Women who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.

Quite honestly stay home anyway...everyone should stay home vulnerable category or not.....I don’t think we r in the vulnerable cat .

Six doctors have died in Italy, ......in France we r locked down. It’s not that bad but days do blend into the same old same old....it’s day eight, or could be nine....😳I’m really not sure now.... but we’re safe.........

Keep safe everyone,

Sue

The sooner we are in lock down the better, I think??

If France wasn't in lockdown, then I wonder if you would have people flocking to your area (its a beautiful place!), as they are in England? There are a lot of second homes where I live and I believe people are coming because "schools out" and its a nicer place to self isolate. No thought for our already (before the virus even started) inadequate hospital etc. So selfish.......

Ah yes I can see what you mean, very unfair.....your poor hospital......I can’t bekeuve what those selfish people are doing....I think they think it’s just flu....they have no idea........in France half in intensive care ( as of Saturday figure was 1500 plus), are under sixty so it’s not always oldies. Every day is a Sunday now............keep safe xxxx

The Parisians who had second homes in the country streamed out of Paris before midday on 17th when the lockdown began to the disgust of the locals. There are many country areas that are still very low in confirmed cases here (my department only had a couple of dozen) and we don't want that to increase because of selfish Parigots.

Yes I agree and then the patisserie is overwhelmed and the bread will go faster

3 doctors have died here. One was retired but going in to help overstretched colleagues. It is maddening that people are so selfish and thoughtless and not appreciative of the heroism of our doctors and other medical workers.

Awful isn’t it, six doctors in Italy and three in France

Thanks for reply’s I have chronic asthma so will be receiving a letter . I have rang my drs and I am in the list . I get my flu vaccine every year on medical grounds for my asthma . I also have paf and I’m aware that’s not on list

Asthma is on the top shelf of health concerns so be careful and follow the government guidelines. The virus is not the flu, so your flu jab will have zero effect on the Covid19 virus. Stay clean and safe hey.

Everyone should self isolate if they can. It is the only way to slow the spread of the virus. If you are out in public, keep at a distance and wash your hands with soap often.
