A personal view.........

One of the points made in Hillys recent post was to avoid listening to too much media coverage on the Coronavirus as it can, and does heighten fear. Provided you have GOT the message, and take all the precautions you can to keep you and your families safe, then I totally agree.

Yesterday, we drove past one of Surrey’s well known beauty spots and I could not believe what I was seeing. Normally, due to car parking charges introduced last year, the area is generally quiet and very pleasant. Yesterday, however, it was manic, cars seemed unable to park and there were well over 100’s of motorcycles. Social distancing was totally ignored, it was unbelievable!

I anticipate that the Government will do what they can, using the media to try and stop this irresponsible behaviour therefore the coverage is likely to become more aggressive and possibly more frightening. Ultimately, the Government is likely to imposed lockdown similar to China and other countries in Europe.

The problem for the vast majority of us who are following the rules are is that we could react badly if we overdose on media cover so my message is obvious. Keep informed but try and limit what you watch or listen to. Usual caveats, this is my personal opinion and I am not medically trained. Good luck......

Yes iv noticed in shops people are not social distancing I dodge them if we go to buy food as the people on beaches here

Look at china no new cases.

Wash hands hygiene and follow social distancing

I think a show on radio to show recipes

Drinks to boost immune system

Put people in a positive mindset

Let's keep positive posts up

Yeah China was MADE to isolate. Until we are, people will ignore all the advice to stay in.

I have to go out to shop but that’s all I’ve done. No public transport, just walking there and of course working from home.

The sooner we all do it.... but it seems unlikely.

I don’t watch the news. A quick check each day on the BBC website is what I do. I look at the headline and quickly move on. It’s too upsetting and worrying.

Facebook is a good thing and a bad thing too!!

Same as any group, even here.

As the sun came out a lot of people went to the beach yesterday..... crazy.

The beach will be still be there in a few months time for gods sake! 😡

Same people who are buying all the loo rolls I suspect! I for one was delighted when I heard that pubs and restaurants were closing, the more the government do now the better in my opinion. Rather than feel scared I feel relieved.

Although I received the message you mention by email, I notice today that it’s now being shared on Facebook and it’s going “viral”!

I was brought up in Surrey until I was 20 and am wondering if it’s Box Hill you visited? Or Richmond Park perhaps? So many beauty spots in Surrey.

It makes me angry to see people totally ignoring the rules of social distancing. Here in the middle of the US( missouri) we are required to social distance, no public gatherings of over 10 people including staff. Restaurants, bars etc are closed. A few days ago news showed arrogant spring break college kids at the beaches. The government has now closed them down. The only thing we go out for is groceries and Im now ordering them online and drive to the store and they load them in my car. I hate shopping so I love that option.

Just one more thing, if it’s any comfort. My husband and I (I sound like the queen!) have been seriously socially distancing ourselves for longer than most. We’re coming up to two weeks so nearly the time of the incubation period and feeling much more relaxed now. Oh, and surprisingly we haven’t had one disagreement in that time!

Same here. We are having cool, rainy weather. I think my mood will improve when the sun comes out and I can b outside more.

That’ll lift our spirits won’t it? Can’t wait to enjoy the garden. On the other hand, at least if it rains it’ll be easier not to go out 😊

True, good point.

Ha! That's what my daughter said about her husband yesterday; they are both self-isolating and he apparently wanted to talk to her about the amount of television their three and six-year-olds were watching; she is trying to work from home three days a week and homeschool to boot!

Totally agree

We know what to do. Every time I watch the news my imagination and anxiety’s kick off. I don’t have a sore throat until I watch the news,

One of the main problems is the number of people who depend on FB and other social media outlets for their news source and who probably never read or listen to a serious news broadcast. Disinterest and lack of any understanding of viral spread as well as dismissal of boring experts doesn't help - a bit like texting whilst driving (sure, I can do it easily).

We have two or three towns locally which cater largely for holidaymakers and I've noticed some resentment at 'city dwellers' moving in to their holiday homes (quote) bringing their diseases with them and buying up all our food' (unquote). I find that trend worrying, uninformed and xenophobic and it's spreading on social media.

Hi FJ :-) the ones who are following the rules are probably not the ones overdosing on sensationalism , panic buying or flooding the roads. They have better things to do like planting potatoes which is what I am about to do .

I also know someone who hasn't listened to any of the advice and poo pood it, his daughter has tested positive for C19 so he may now wish he had.

There is a happy medium, keep up to date by listening to the daily briefing and reading the government website then get on with your life as best you can in the safety of your home...oh and one other thing pop on here in case there is anyone who needs reasurance... :-)

Thank goodness they don’t hear a siren and see doodlebugs dropping. 2 oz butter a week. So on and so on. Human brings at their best. 😡

I'm addicted to finding out every nit-picking thing to do with the coronavirus, too scared I'll miss hearing something important! Though I must admit I haven't heard or watched the news today. The sun is shining and that takes my mind off everything else.

I'm afraid young people have a total disregard for isolating themselves. They're at the age where they think awful illnesses only happen to other people and they're immune. My 24 year old grandson, deprived of going to the pub with his friends and watching football, met up with friends in the park to have a kick around. Honestly, I give up!! What on earth can be done to make them realise how serious this situation is right now?

My youngest daughter who works in a hospital, has never had a days illness in her life and she's convinced she won't get the virus either! She tells me doctors and nurses flop on to a chair in her office and tell her they're not feeling too well!!!

Agree entirely. I’m just keeping up to date with news, 10 mins in morning , 10 mins in the evening. I am not going to binge watch the news. We are at product of our thoughts’ watching too much negative news will just make us miserable. As night follows day we will get through this .........

I’ve had the virus 10 times this past 2 weeks.... every time I read the symptoms .... I’m convinced I can’t breathe properly!!

Then I calm down and it passes.... till the next time!

I totally agree. Trouble is that The news can be compelling to watch. Best to limit it to 5pm or just twice a day at max methinks.
