I take a number of supplements.

Difficult to say impact of Rhodiola, but looking at the evidence there is a strong case for taking it.

I think abstaining from alcohol for the last three months has helped, whilst I still have persistent AF, I feel that my emotional health is better, and feel more able to cope with things. Cardioversion on 13 March, fingers crossed that puts me back in NSR.

Get back to me if I can help further.

I would say helpful is magnesium oil, it is actually magnesium suspended in water rather than oil. 10 sprays on each thigh a day, your body is very efficiently in absorbing magnesium through skin. My wife takes protein pump inhibitors, low acid in stomach means you don’t absorbe magnesium. About £10 for 100ml from Amazon last about 6 weeks.

Magnesium I think is the best supplement I take.

I’m sure there are members on here that will have their favourite.

Steve are you saying that spraying on skin overcomes the Ppi problem with absorption?

Hi Katz

For you to absorbe magnesium in your stomach you need a low ph. PPI’s as you know reduce significantly the acid in the stomach. Therefore a magnesium spray gets round that problem as you efficiently absorbe magnesium through your skin.

If you read the note that comes with PPI’s you will see that low magnesium levels is something you need to be aware of when taking PPI’s. I think in the States they monitor your magnesium levels. Problem is that serum magnesium level is totally unreliable, as 99% of your magnesium is held at a cellular level, so if you have low serum magnesium it will take it from your cells, so the serum magnesium level looks fine when you are in fact low in magnesium at the cellular level.

I looked at this in great length when my wife had to take PPI’s (she had oesophageal cancer and had half stomach removed).

Hope this helps

Great to hear your ablation went well!

Was that your first ablation?

How long has it lasted, fingers crossed it stays that way.

Best wishes

Yes was my first. Had it in July. 3episodes of AF since lasting 2/3 hrs, all over night.

Ask your heart doc about rhodiola. I took it for years and loved it but when I got a fib they recommended I stop it as I guess it can be somewhat of a stimulant.

I had the same problem with the Rhodiola acting as a stimulant and had to stop taking it. I think different individuals may have different responses and suggest checking with your cardiologist before trying something new. Then when you try something new, add ONLY ONE NEW thing and see how you tolerate it. (Never mix two new supplements at the same time or you will not know which may have caused a reaction you do not like.)

That's interesting. Currently I could do with the energy boost though.

Did it do so negatively for you, like with jitters or poor sleep?

All the lit says it's supposed to calm the body by soothing the Vegus nerve/parasympathetic n sympathetic nervous system. More energy supposed to come from body being more in balance. Hormones n all

Guess it is whether or not you need that!

Anyone else find it did the trick ?

Looking back I really liked taking it but I think EP thought it was jacking up my bp/ heart rate. That was 4 yr ago, I would like to give it a try now that Im alot healthier in general. Guess I should ask the doc.

Well it's supposed to reduce your BP, mines already pretty high.

Would be nice to be on less drugs with side effects n further risks of other diagnoses

Yes, Im only on a small dose of betablocker and flecainide as needed. I weaned off antidepressant and actually feel better without it, lol.

Thx Hoski, according to what I read it has a steadying effect on the heart, stimulates only by making your mitochondria more efficient.

Worth reading more.

in reply to Turquoise19

I dont doubt it. My EP just recommended I stop it. I continued with other supplements and he had no issue with but Im not sure what his deal was with rhodiola.
