I have had AF for 14 years now. I am 60 and have no other major health concerns. I have had 6 Cardio Versions and one Ablation and an currently waiting on a second ablation. I also currently in normal synus rhythm.
I have been taking betablockers for the entire 14 years usually Bisoprolol and on occasion Sotolol. Prior to my last Cardio Version in October 2019 I started taking Amiodarone in addition to Bisoprolol and and due to continue until September 2020. However, in November I went into Tacycardia with resting rate as low as 37bpm and the Bisoprolol was stopped.
I am now experiencing sever headaches 3-4 days a week. And I mean severe. Anyone else been down this path?
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul , I was on Amiodarone for 6 months prior to my ablation after which they took me off it . Was told it takes at least 3 monthstoleave your system. I felt awful whilst taking it with just about every side effect known even messed up my thyroid ,and every doctor said that it was a 'horrible drug ' ! but although I had headaches they weren't that severe . I am still on Bisoprolol and rivaroxaban daily and most days feel ok .
Let me address Amiodarone. October to November is eleven months. Someone here in the past. posted that beyond 30 grams total in taking it, severe reactions may occur; unfortunately, I could not locate any article despite my having tried several times. Having said that, eleven months is a long time to take Amiodarone, granted some have posted that they have taken Amiodarone for years with no side effects. Others have posted that their thyroid was most affected resulting in having to take thyroid pills for life.
In my case, I had many side effects. For me, I felt that it was keeping me in arrhythmia (intermittently) because as soon as I switched to Flecainide I went into sinus rhythm for a continuous five months. Now, after my third ablation I am on Propafenone.
Drugs.com addresses Amiodarone causing severe headache in the "rare" side effects list.
