Hi Guys

6 weeks now since cryo ablation. First month was quite bad with multiple episodes, one resulting in a trip to A&E. I was advised to up dosage of Bisoprolol from 10mg to 12.5mg and apart from a few skipped beats which are also getting less and less, all is well APART from I've now got a constant headache, albeit not too intrusive but it's there. I've tried ringing hospital on multiple numbers but cannot reach anyone for advice. A doctors appointment is nigh on impossible. I'm thinking it's the extra bisoprolol that's doing it but reluctant to decrease dosage without medical input. What are your thoughts on this.

Hi Kia, sorry to hear that you are having problems. Firstly, have you read the AF Association factsheet on recovering from an ablation, if not, there is a link below. You will see it is quite common to experience migraines after an ablation.

As we are not medically trained, we are unable to comment on prescribed medication but I think you need to take further medical advice on what has been recommended. Very often, heart rate certainly, and sometimes blood pressure can fluctuate after an ablation. Heart rate can often remain elevated for weeks, often months. You are on a very high dose of Bisoprolol which is likely to significantly suppress both heart rate and blood pressure so the chances are, there is a bit of a battle going on at the moment.

If I were you, I would email your EP, or his secretary as soon as possible, explaining everything which has happened so far and also, do the same to the Arrhythmia Nurse, assuming there is one attached to your hospital. Maybe the discharge team gave you some contact details prior to leaving the hospital.

We cannot advise you to change doses, this has to be done by your Doctor....good luck, hopefully you will soon get the help you need.
