At the 39 minute mark of this podcast there is an interesting piece on how sleep apnea can be different in women and the overall AHI numbers may not be the best measurement. Apparently women often have an issue with REM. This is exactly what happened in my sleep study. I had a large number of apneas during my REM (which was only about half an hour) but the rest of my sleep was pretty good so averaging out the AHI the lower number was deemed as mild sleep apnea (borderline moderate). Because of AF however CPAP was recommended.
