Hi all..diagnosed with PAF in 2017..on metaprolol , hydrochlorthiazide, eliquis and atacand..feel pretty good most of time...some light headed ness...Over last 2 years have experienced episodes of syncope 3 times..the last two were weird in that one I was lying in bed reading and last one I was sitting on couch watching movie. Trying to figure out why these are happening? Anyone else have episodes of syncope?

I sometimes wonder if we become so absorbed in what we're doing, especially when we're sat still, that we forget to breathe correctly i.e. breathe too shallow. Perhaps we forget to drink enough fluid at these times too.

I've had presyncope in similar circumstances - relaxed and then the world starts draining away. I think it may be a spell of low HR.

Yes could be low heart rate I guess...my resting is usually in the 50’s..very disturbing when you don’t know when it’s coming....or what is causing it?

Had a 2nd ablation in June which went well.

However about 3 weeks later I kept having PVCs that made me lightheaded at first and then 2 episodes where I fainted.

Both were after I’d stood up quickly. I think I also have Postural Hypotension which gets worse the fitter I am.

EP prescribed low daily dose of Bisoprolol and Flecainide.

This sorted me out and no more PVCs or Syncope.

He also suggested weaning myself off both drugs over time.

About 2 weeks ago I stopped the meds and have to admit I felt great for about a week and then the PVCs returned and with it lots of pre-syncope.

So back on the meds again and will try again in a few months.

If I were you Oscar I’d be onto my Cardiologist/EP to get his advise. Probably something you can resolve by tweaking your meds.

Thanks for your reply...at time of diagnosis I was already on metaprolol and atacand for BP control (for 30 years)..added blood thinner and tweaked meds to am and pm for better control of heart rate..same dosage different times of day. Then this past april added fluid pill which lowers BP also for my kidneys as I was leaking calcium into kidneys and forming stones...all of these are for rest of my life...not sure why pills are consistent but no rhyme or reason to syncope episodes?
