If you have chest pain or feel faint/dizzy then go to A and E or call medical help. Stay well hydrated and see what happens is what most people do. A and E will likely just monitor you. What drugs are you on?

If you don’t have chest pain the advice here tends to veer toward sitting it out at home. That’s what I do when I have a similar type of episode to yours (150hr) and my episodes cluster round 6 to 8 hours. Distraction is the key for me, a book, a tv programme, even some light chores. Slowing your breathing down with long inhalations and exhalations can also be of great help. Wishing you a speedy reversion to sinus!...

Hi! Hope you are feeling better now. Yes I normally sit it out at home if there’s no chest pain or dizziness. I do get pain on both arms though. Try and get some sleep if you can. Mine normally lasts between few minutes to 20 hours. On average 3-6 hours. Take care.

Hi there these are always really anxious times which I hate! I agree with all other posters any pain or breathlessness call ambulance . If you can see your doctor soon I would ask them for some pill in pocket suggestions so you can do something and ( importantly) feel like you have done something .

there are medicines like flecainide that regulate heart beats that work for some ( me included)

Bless you, so glad to hear your pulse has returned to normal sinus rhythm. You may feel a little off colour for a few days now,

Flecainide helps so many. Ask for pill in the pocket. Sorry you've had this worry - I hate that feeling.

Yes, go to A&E soonest, call for an ambulance don't drive. Call 111 if unsure.

Personally I think A & E now. I think I have said before, when I was in and out of hospital by ambulance, I was told that I should think about hospital when heart rate above 110. Having said that mine used to jump quite quickly to 240-250. I hope you feel better soon, but don’t leave it.

I take them too. I am 68 on Atenolol which does not stop you having an attack but not as severe. I only feel pulse beating furiously on right side of neck. Around 102 bpm for anywhere from minutes to 3 hours. They are horrible. I take a double dose of calcium when i have an episode which sometimes stops them within 10 to 30 minutes. We all seem to have similar symptoms. I too usually sit down and watch something calming on tv or sometimes doing light work in house helps.

Hi Maisiemay13,

Not sure of your age, but a heart rate of 165 bpm is probably near your physiological maximum. If this high rate returns and continues it can lead to heart failure, (which may be reversible if treated in time). Please, please get the right docs to help you, (preferably an arrhythmia specialist- electrophysiologst).
