Didn’t have a great night, woke at 3:30, high BP 140/67 and pulse of 71. I’d been dreaming, which seems to be a regular feature now😳 I took readings every now and again, eventually came down to 122/66 pulse of 58.

The BP machine didn’t register an irregular beat. Concerned it may have been an AF episode. I got hot yesterday and probably didn’t drink enough water.

Any ideas?

I was hot, I’d got a fan going, shut the windows because of the birds etc. Opened the windows to cool the room. I have a timber framed house and it can get hot upstairs.

Yes I have a summer duvet, I’d even cool showered before going to bed. Endeavouring to drink more today.

Probably need to be well hydrated. Personally I wouldn't get too fixated about taking BP in the middle of the night unless you felt really ill. BP not really high anyhow. This will only cause you anxiety and more lost sleep.

I wish! Those numbers are not high at all to be honest. Normal BPM is 60 to 100 so 71 is OK . Just stay well hydrated and stop worrying please. You are normal.

It's not too late to get a reasonably priced week in Austria, or Switzerland if you wish. Ski lifts will whisk you up cool areas, and there are plenty of cafes to enjoy the view....

Hi there, to be honest I would be quite happy with that BP reading. Perhaps 71 was a wee bit high for you but it has come down. So probably the heat. I myself wouldn't worry too much about it. X

140 isn’t normal for me, my medication can take it to very low 100’s. Before AF, BP was normal to low.

I think the heat of the day could have done it. I had a crazy day two weeks ago. I hadn't had AF for 10 months then I had it twice In Two weeks, then on the Saturday my blood pressure went mad it was 207/100. Called 111 they calmed me down. Funnily enough my Pulse went back to normal and everything calmed down. Am now back to 52 which is normal for me, I had been in AF for 5 days felt really unwell. Ended up atCheltenham A&E but everything was fine. See how you go today. I struggled a bit yesterday but am fine. What medication are you on?

Bisoprolol and FLECAINIDE Think it’s the heat and dehydration, so yesterday drank and drank. I’m trying Gatorade drink occasionally. We went to the Blue Lagoon in Iceland in March. They only had one water tap in the pools! I realised when I got out I was far far over heated, felt awful, lady in the restaurant gave me a Gatorade and I felt instantly much better.

I am on the same tablets.200flec. And 10 mg bisoprolol. I have just walked: my 4 dogs and the one decided to play up. She is very boisterous but she has been a right pain this morning. Anyway I could feel myself getting out of breath and I thought keep calm take a deep breath. But the sweat has just poured out of me. You are saying to yourself please don't start. Back now all's calm.

By the way I have awful nightmares and someone said last week that it is probably the flecanide.

Vivid dreams are a side effect of Sotalol and , I believe, of other AF medications. If you had an anxiety dream that could increase your pulse. The 140 sounds a bit on the highe side for systolic pressure but the 67 diastolic and 71 pulse are not outrageously high -did you take three readings to get an average, which is usually advised when doing home monitoring? I don’t think there is clear evidence

of an AF episode, particularly if your pulse felt regular when you woke up.

Yes I’d taken a few, didn’t know to take an average. I wondered how much the dream had effect, I don’t remember it being a bad dream though.

This article lists several causes of a “racing heart” at night including AF:

healthline.com/health/wakin...

At 71 bpm, I would not say that your heart is racing, but several of the causes listed seem relevant. I would recommend checking your pulse with a finger and timing for one minute whenever you wake up, to get a better idea of whether your pulse is systematically elevated at night. Whilst AF cannot be ruled out, I wouldn’t say that there is enough evidence to say that you had a bout of AF at the moment.

I think you'd find a Doctor would not be to concerned with that reading , I have readings of 141/78 heart 79 and don't get a knee jerk reaction from them.

I can only sympathise with the dreams and it mystifies me how medication for AF and HF can cause regular sleep disturbance and nightmare/anxiety dreams. I thought it would get better with time but now 12 months on I am still experiencing vivid and sometimes awful nightmares. I am taking 7.5mg Bisoprolol daily and 60mg Edoxaban + a healthy dose of statins and an asprin. If it’s the medication how does it affect my psyche and my dreams? I have a pacemaker so a constant 70bpm all the time.

When you read the instructions that come with the pills you might wonder, am I experiencing these things from the condition or the pills 😳

I usually only dream occasionally. The dreams are accompanied with heavy sleep, which isn’t normal for me. Last evening my snore app score was doubled, which worries me because it can cause AF
