okay last Friday I wake up at 3 am in Afib racing heart etc. I have 5 shocks Friday night which do nothing and I'm still in a fib. Last night I lie down for 10 minutes to take a nap..get startled awake and I'm in sinus Rhythm again..Does through startle reflex involve the vagus nerve or...? This is WAY too much of a coincidence ..Thoughts?
Also I am taking Diltiazem 180 mg daily..but I want to MAXIMIZE my chances of avoiding afib..
I am thinking diltiazem 180 with or without the beta blocker..and using flecimide as a pill in the pocket when it appears to be happening. OR no beta blocker Metropole and take the Flecanide daily with the Calcium Channel Blocker..
Thank you for through input! Appreciate it. I am 54.

Hi yes I had already asked my cardio and waiting to hear back from him but wanted to know what peoples experiences were with different combos..Thanks for replying!
Fortunately or unfortunately every experience with meds is different so a plethora of repliez would be interesting but no help to you as an individual. Increased vagal tone can help with AF and splashing face and wrists with cold water or drinking cold drinks can start and stop AF. Many people find slowing the breathing helps a great deal and we all have our favourite rhythms , mine is in for7 out for11 As to meds, for discussion with med professionals who have your notes in front of them and years of training and with your help can make informed decisions
Just to add, for me Flecanide is wonderful stuff but calcium channel blockers cause badly swollen ankles. Flecainide is a sodium channel blocker. I don't understand the chemistry but my EP said there was no problem with my salt (sodium ) intake, which is minimal anyway.
I'm sorry you have this awful issue. The drug that caught my attention was metoprolol. I had bad experience with that drug. I don't know if you're taking it or planning on it but please read up on it. I don't want to bias you either way, but I ended up going back on an even older beta blocker, atenolol. I hope thanks stablize for you. The very best of luck and good fortune
Funny you mention that. I was on atenolol before they switched me.They are both beta blockers so no ides why the need to switch. Thanks for responding!
