Afib for several hours - much longer than usual

Morning, went into Afib at about 6 yesterday evening after a very long day. I had definitely over done it. Now 10 and a half hours later I had to re charge my Garman that counts my heat rate. I am still in Afib.

Not sure what I should do when it is finally day time. I was thinking of going to my local A&E and letting them decide to send me to the main hospital A&E.

Or should I ring the Dr?

If I go back into sinus rhythm I probably won't do anything.

I had had very little sleep and I am very tired.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Katie

Hi do you normally come out of AFib by yourself? It might be worth speaking to 111 or your GP if it's still going, and they might be able to intervene with antiarryhmics . It is not pleasant when it goes on for ages..but not classed as,an emergency. Hope you feel better soon,is,anyone with you? Try not to worry too much and drink lots of water

Hi Katie, are you still in AF now and is it the fast type? Is it also making you feel ill and do you have medicine to take to help calm it? It's not unusual to be in Af for days, months or even permanently. If you can answer these questions we may be able to tell you what we would do in your situation.

Certainly if you are feeling dizzy, faint or have heart pain you need urgent advice and should ring the 111 NHS number for advice.

thank you for this. I finally went back to sinus rhythm after nearly 11 hours. I've had some sleep and now feel fine. I worked hard on not feeling sorry for myself. I wasn't in pain, or breathless, in my own comfy bed with my husband beside me. But you just long to be able to rest.

Yes, it's difficult to get to sleep at times when your heart is playing up. I have some sleeping tablets from my GP for when this happens, as I rarely take them he's happy to prescribe.

I might ask. Thank you for you help. Tell me, do you take Magnesium? I'm wondering about it as it seems something quite simple I can do for myself.

This is what I take and I feel better taking it: This product is the most highly absorbable because it's chelated. amazon.com/Bluebonnet-Chela...

that one isn't available in the UK it seems but I will look for another chelated product. Thank you!!!

I too take a sleeping tablet the night after being in af, only a low dose but I feel so much better & after hours of af/ectopics/feeling sick & breathless it just helps relax an exhausted body & heart.

Maybe check with cardiologist first as gps dont always like prescribing without advice from cardiologist

How did you overdo it?

It was the neighbourhood open gardens event. It was very successful but it took it's toll.

Oh no, that's terrible! I am never going to complain again - I realise I'm getting off very lightly compared to others. Are you looking for a long term solution or do you just live with it? I am so sorry!

I can empathise with you Katie,

😕mine started at 3am this morning, it’s now 14:50 & still hopping about a little bit, it’s so upsetting when you are going along with life nicely, almost forgetting that there is a problem, then it jumps out at you & slaps you in the face while laughing & shouting ha ha! You didn’t really believe I had gone for good after the last time did you!!

Well that’s how I feel about it😕

That is a good description sugaredalmonds - same here few weeks ago i was feeling so well & full of energy I couldn't believe it!! then day later early hours of the morning af kicked in for 10 hours. It now takes a day + for me to recover

it is very sneaky! Mine seems to be all right as long as I don't do anything remotely fun. I do take care, don't drink (although may be on Sunday I didn't drink enough water) but I breath deeply etc and then pop - off it goes. And always so depressing when taking your pulse and you get five or six regular beats and then it starts bumping around again.

But knowing we are not alone does make it better!

So glad we know about each other!
