The best meds are what works for you. We are all different as I keep saying. First line of attack for most doctors is rate control using beta blockers. If that doesn't work then rhythm control may be tried. No single protocol has been proven to be better than another and rember that all treatment is for quality of life only.
Hi,
My uncle kept waking up with a pounding heart in the night. His was so bad it was waking him up and this happened for 5 days and then he had a heart attack 2 weeks ago. The hospital told him he had a blocked artery and this caused the heart attack which blew a hole in his heart. It has been repaired and he is very lucky to be alive but they've now diagnosed him with Atrial Fibrillation (his pounding heart beat that happened before his heart attack) and put him on the new blood thinners. He's 71 and chomping on the bit to go home now!
Perhaps you need to get your GP to check what meds you are on and see if you need to switch. My uncle wasn't on any heart meds before this happened.

Totally agree with the above comments. Different med`s work for different people - it`s trial and error unless you strike it lucky the first time.
I think if your body is swelling you really should contact your doctor asap. I`m sure you`ll be just fine but it`s to be better to be safe than sorry.
Best,
Paul
Agree you need to see a doctor re body swelling- it sounds as if you are retaining fluid and they can give you meds to help with this. It's very rare for AF on its own to cause heart attacks- it is usually rather something heart connected which in itself may also cause the Af so don't get too anxious- just see your doctor.
