Checking my INR while starting/taking Glucosmine/Chronitin for OA

Just an info item really.

I've started taking Glucosmine/ Chronitin tablets for OA pain in my right shoulder. Got the OK from Pharmacist as I'm on Warfarin. He said when I discussed the ingredients with him that there was nothing that was startlingly alarming. Just self monitor and see how it goes.

As I self test with my Coaguchek device I found my INR was 3.3. Up a bit but as my tendency is to go upwards rather than down I decided to stop all, yes - ALL, green veggies for 2 days. Then I had green veggie for 1 day, then stopped for two days again.

So, over the 5 days of faffing around I got my INR down from 3.3 to 2.5.

2.5 is my theraputic target. A perfect score.

'ave a good day out there.

Good morning young man 😀

I'll go to any lengths to get on top of the OA pain, at least till NHS swings into action. 😂

My Dr. stressed that it has to be 1500mg Glucosamine with a minimum of 100mg Chondroiton ( its the expensive part ) daily.

Hope you can keep it up without faffing too much :)

Thanks sleeksheep, sounds about what I have. Will check tonight when I get home.

Hi Carneuny, are you sure you've got that the right way around? Green veg contain Vit K which helps moderate the effects of warfarin. So you would expect that if you stop the green veg then your INR should go up and vice versa.

In order to standardise your dose of Vit K, could you take a Vit K supplement, or, preferably, as I do, take Vit K2? Then I find I'm pretty resistant to any changes in INR through food.

Hi Mark,

Yep, weirdly yes absolutely sure I have it right. This has become a frequent occurrence for me now.

I've checked what I have written as well in case I lost it in translation, so to speak. 🙂
