Post ablation and finally off amiodarone

I had my ablation last September and all was good although it took a long time. My EP took me off amiodarone in December saying he hoped I would stay in NSR. My pulse is still regular but I have started getting very fast fluttery moments which only last a few minutes and often happen when I wake up or maybe they wake me up! I also have a heavy feeling in my chest quite a lot of the time. I can't honestly say it is painful but I am aware of it. I had persistent AF which was not helped by cardioversions. I am due to see my EP again in June and have a holter for a week prior to the appointment. I am on apixaban, felodopine, ramipril and atorvastatin. I have high blood pressure and this seems to have got a bit worse since I got the odd feelings, Any comments would be helpful as I don't feel I need to contact my EP before my appointment. Thank you.

I know from personal experience how unsettling it can be when you experience changes around or just after that “magical” six month period following an ablation. Amiodarone is known to be a potent drug and I expect it’s not surprising that you are noticing changes to your hearts function as the body adjusts to the change. If you have access to an Arrhythmia Nurse at your hospital it might be worth contacting her but there are many members who have stopped Amiodarone after an ablation and I am sure they will share their experiences......

Thank you Flapjack. My EP did say it would take several months for the amiodarone to clear my system and he was not sure if it was the drug holding me in NSR. I had hardly any side effects while I was on it so was very lucky and all my tests came back ok. I think I will just have to wait and see. I was just surprised that my pulse remains steady even when I feel my heart doesn't, if that makes sense!

I will only comment as to say please, if you have not done so, read posts on this site searched under Amiodarone. And also a Google search so that you are fully aware of the possible side effects of this very bad drug even after coming off of it. If in doubt please discuss with you GP and/or EP. Hope you progress OK.

Thanks Norm, I was really lucky when I was on amiodarone and my only side effect was from the sun or heat. All my tests have been clear and I was only on it for about 8 months. My EP doesn't like it but felt it was necessary short term. That and the ablation seemed to work perfectly and it is only now I am wondering if something else is occurring as no AF is showing up.
