I had my ablation for AFib on 18 January and my BPM immediately returned to normal. Good news, however 2 days ago my Heart rate started to soar even at rest to 100-120. It has stayed at that ever since. Should I be conserned?

Concerned? probably not, however I would give your EP/Rhythm team a call. They would be the best people to answer this

Agree with Mike, as you can see from the AFA factsheet (link below) it’s quite common for the heart rate to become elevated for a period after an ablation. I am assuming your heart beat is regular although fast but it might be a good idea to see if you can have an ECG.......

Yes, I agree with Mike and Flapjack. Contact your AF team, as they may offer you a cardioversion. How are you feeling with that rate?

Hi Jean. Actually I strangely feel OK. It hit 190 earlier today for no particular reason. The other night I woke up in bed and it was 120! I’m monitoring on an iWatch.

You will often see the odd high spot with iWatch but don’t be concerned unless it stays there. I put on the high rate alert ie it will notify you if your HR stays 120+ for more than 10 mins - otherwise ignore the odd high peak. On a daily basis my range for the day might be 45-190 but the average is resting rate of 65 - that is all you need to look at really.

this is exactly what happened to me after my ablation in November, and I then went into AF for considerable periods of time.

so far the cardiology response has been to quadruple my beta blockers. since the New year bp has come down about 20bpm to around 100bpm and I'm mainly now in sinus rhythm (at least according to me).

I expect this to last a considerably longer period before pulse rate reverts to 'normal' - say 60-70 bpm but as the very helpful people here told me, be patient this is very early days after the ablation and your body is still healing.

Just had a call from my Cardiologist who has doubled my Nebivolol intake.

Sounds like this a normal course of events but he wants to see me in 3-4 weeks time.
