Asthma and Apixaban

Hi, has anyone had increased problems with their asthma as a result of commencing Apixaban or any of the other NOACs? My shortness of breath, wheeze and exercise intolerance have been problematic an dit is now the only drug I am taking. Beta blockers were the assumed cause originally , but they were stopped after an ablation. I think I can now track the deterioration to the point where we introduced Apixaban for AF but there is little in the literature........

How long ago did you stop the beta blockers?

I am not athsmatic but did have a small breathlessness problem (and other problems) on diltiazem (A CCB). Post ablation, when I stopped the diltiazem things did not improve. I was worried the issue was not the diltiazem all along and something else was wrong. Diltiazem only has a short half life. However between 4 and 6 weeks later I lost all the symptoms. I concluded that the unintenional side effects of the drug lasted longer than the drug itself , which is quite worrying. I am not medically trained so don't know if this is science, its just what I observed.

Hi, off the beta blockers for 6 months so I know it can't be them.

Have you tried patient forums for drugs? I remember reading opinions of Apixaban several months ago and most of the people complaining about it cited symptoms that were not listed in the patient leaflets. That does not mean they were imagining them as it is usual for more side effects to emerge with drugs the more people taking them and the lomnger they are on the market.
