Music and AF

I get the bus to work each day in London.... it takes about an hour.

I always listen to music.

Ever since I’ve had AF (last year).... I’ve been somewhat distracted.... constant thoughts about my heart and mortality etc etc.

I’m 13 days now after my cardioversion.... still going ok! This morning I put on Selling England By The Pound by Genesis on the way to work..... first time in forever that I did not think about my AF.... totally absorbed in the music ....

I listen at night too when I’m going to sleep to stop me listening to my heartbeat.

Music is a great distraction and relaxer .... I know I’m stating the obvious but still I felt like sharing!

Cheers Genesis!!!

Yep, music is a big part of my life. When I was on a cardiac ward for 10 days the only thing that calmed me was a pair of noise cancelling headphones and my favorite music

"Me, I'm just a lawnmower, you can tell by the way I walk." Inspired lyrics penned by Peter Gabriel' probably in his very posh shed. He knows what he likes!

Love it! Totally crazy but unique and so missed. I wish they’d reform .... that would really set my heart racing!!

What a wonderful album Selling England By The Pound is.. we had an eye wateringly long drive to the Isle Of Skye to stay for a week for a wedding a few years back and as we drove through the gorgeous scenery for the last third of the journey this album was playing in my head like a soundtrack.

Amazing experience, will never forget it. The journey home was a tiring nightmare as all the good part was at the beginning....

My cardioversion has lasted me well (touchwood) with only three or four 30 to 50 hour episodes (which self reverted, just sat them out) in the four years since I had it. I was very nervous at first expecting it to come back but gradually stopped worrying about it.

Hope that yours does even better : )

Yes it is an amazing album and you do get lost in it. What a wonderful experience to have the visual journey and the music for you! Thankyou for your wishes re my cardioversion success .... and long may both of ours continue!

One of the best bands of all time. And that album... perfection. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway—also amazing. I’m the same way with music, it can totally take you away from your troubles and distracting thoughts!

in reply to JulieTw33

Yes that album is perfection .... Foxtrot too!

I like all the Genesis era’s but the Peter Gabriel era is the best I reckon!

Agree! And have loved everything Peter Gabriel has done since! Saw him in the 80s on the Shock The Monkey tour and fell madly in love! 🥰😂

I have only seen him once at Mandela Day when he did Biko. I’d love to see him live, full set.

I bet that was amazing!

What a lovely post BlackCrow. I was only saying the same last week to my husband. I’ve been feeling a bit down as my AF is back after being okay for about 18 months after my second ablation and I’m feeling so exhausted and anxious. We go to a lot of live music gigs and concerts, four last week but normally three and they really make me feel better. I never feel like making the effort to go but once I’m there it so takes me out of myself, I love it. Next booked concert I think you might like it’s Voodoo Room playing the music of Clapton, Hendrix and Cream!

Hope your cardioversion keeps you well.

in reply to ETFCfan

That sounds great.... and I know what you mean about gigs.... I don’t know why but I have to force myself to go sometimes but always without fail, I love it when I’m there!!

I hope you’re feeling better soon. Will you have another Ablation?

I really don’t know. It was suggested at my last appointment but only in passing. The consultant said it would be more complicated and longer than last time and that was seven hours so not too keen. I’ve just had a monitor so am waiting the results, I’m hoping that adding or tweaking my drugs may help. I will think of you next time I’m reluctant to go out I’ll think of our conversation!

Yeah it’s weird isn’t it about the going out?!!

I hope things settle for you. Very early days for me.
