I made a private appointment with a Dr David Fox at Cheadle Royal which cost around £250 for the initial consultation, he then put me on his NHS list at Wythenshawe for tests.

He has a good reputation and I found him very helpful.

Wythenshawe is an excellent place and lost some of its catchment area when former patients were transferred to Blackpool a few years ago. Blackpool also has a very good reputation but has very long waiting lists. I don't know the current situation but it took over a year at one time to get to the top of the list for an ablation.

Interesting question. I’m not sure that the concept of reputation is meaningful. Anecdotal recommendation is likely to be influenced by outcomes.

I went to Hull for my ablation, it didn’t work, the admin backup was poor but I felt the EP did his best.

Has anyone seen Sanjay Gupta privately? Or is he not an electrophysiologist?

There is at least one person here who's had a private telephone consultation with Dr Gupta but I think he's a cardiologist rather than an EP.

'The North of England' covers a pretty wide area. Could you be a bit more precise about your location?

I live in Huddersfield so would be looking at west or south yorkshire

I can't help with a personal recommendation. Sorry. May I suggest that you post a new message with a heading that indicates that you are looking for EP recommendations in West and South Yorkshire?

You might also try this website which lists heart arrythmia specialists (some of whom are EPs) alphabetically.

I haven't had an ablation myself, but my understanding from reading messages here is that it's the number of ablations an EP has done (ie the level of experience) that is the crucial factor to be considered.

There is Dr Dhiraj Gupta, an EP at Broadgreen in Liverpool, and Dr Sanjay Gupta who does the videos, who is a cardiologist, not an EP, in York.

I was on the waiting list for 5 months at Wythenshawe.

Dr Lee Graham, Leeds General Infirmary has been excellent for me. He is an EP and Cardilogist. I saw him private first. More recently through NHS.
