Being in AF. Your heart isn’t as affective at pumping blood around your body delivering the nutrients your brain, organs and muscles require to be active. Others have described being in fast AF as running back to back marathons - that’s what your heart is doing in effect.

It’s interesting that some people seem to suffer much more than others though and I have no idea why. I also think people who were very fit tend to feel much more frustrated because of the difference between what they are used to feeling/doing and the restrictions that AF imposes. Just my theory.

Thanks CDreamer.

I'm not in AF however exhausted is probably the wrong expression. I'm tired all the time weather i'm in AF or not ?

All I take for my AF is apixeban I only take bisoprolol when in AF.

Definitely the AF for the reasons CDreamer has stated. On the odd occasions that I have been in very fast AF I have been absolutely wiped out. I take apixaban daily (of course) and don't feel exhausted as a rule. It was a different matter when I took bisoprolol though - that left me 'zombified'.

Thanks CarolF.

I don't think alternate night shift's help.

I also need to get my diet under control and lose some weight.

I also have type 2 diabetes so need to get into better shape ( currently my shape is a sack of potate )

Night shift work, especially your work pattern, are not good for anyone's health long term I'm afraid. I don't suppose there's any chance of you changing your shift pattern?

At least you are aware of what you need to do as regards weight and lifestyle. I know doing it is easier said then done, but the Legacy Study showed that getting your BMI below 25 helps to reduce the AF burden. You'll get lots of advice and support here if you want any with that.

Good Luck!

You could try a 'low glycaemic load' diet (see Patrick Holford, on the internet or book) to help with your diabetes and weight.

Maybe it's time to try a different NOAC , Rivaoxaban made me feel energy less and flu like. Took a lot of time trying to convince my EP and GP that this wonder drug could possibly be at fault.

I was right
