I was diagnosed with AF 6 weeks ago and struggled over the last few weeks with side effects from the medication Bisproplol 5 mg and Rivaroxaban 20 mg. These have started to settle although I'm feeling very tired. I've taken Ramipril for high BP for many years and take the maximum dose of 10mg a day. My blood pressure is remaining high and is different every day, yesterday it was 228 / 141 and then calmed down to 132 / 90. I've had a constant headache over the last 4 days (which I think is down to the high BP) and can't get a GP appointment this week. Has anyone else suffered with really high BP and if so what helped? I've cut down on salt, alcohol, caffeine etc and drinking beetroot juice and trying to be healthy and joined slimming world. I'm back at work and trying to keep stress levels to a minimum too, but this is hard some days as I have a demanding job. Any advice welcome. I read most of the posts and its really helped me enormously, thank you.

BP of 228/141 is deemed a hypertensive crisis so it’s a good job it’s come down. I had BP in that range after giving birth to my first child (I had preeclampsia) and doctors said it was too dangerous to move me. I had to sleep in the delivery suite overnight. Do you have a 24 hour health hotline you can ring for advice if you can’t get to see your doctor?
I think with BP that high you need to see a doctor asap to be honest. I hate the idea but there are some cases when A and E is the only short term answer. Please see somebody very soon.
Deep breathing will always bring my blood pressure down, take a deep breath in letting your stomach (not chest) inflate and then breathe out with a little force through your mouth. Do this until you're happy with your BP level.
I don't want to be alarmist but that is a dangerously high blood pressure in spite of you taking Ramipril and Bisoprolol!! I think you need to get emergency medical attention!!
Can I ask what type of monitor do you use to do your blood pressure??
Sorry didn't see your photo. Digital monitors can be inaccurate if your BP is very high or very low which is why most cardiologists use a manometer, cuff and stethoscope. However a constant headache strongly suggests you do need very urgent review!!
