Haha lovely photo, makes my mouth water.

Trying to keep the calories down so my non-guilty pleasure is a low calorie ice cream that starts and ends in O. Nothing replaced except the sugar, with stevia. Guilty pleasure is sirloin steak and chips.

As far as I'm concerned everything except coffee and maybe alcohol (jury's still out on that) has been ok I think - pretty sure my arrhythmias are random.

100% fruit popsicles, especially in the hot summer weather.

Contrary to the photo, my current favourite is home made fish pie presented by my other half...... she usually makes enough to last three days! Perked me up tonight!

...Hi Jean :-) that is about as naughty as I get now, I am happy with my healthy eating . I do eat a lot of almonds about 5 packets a week . Good for the heart and the hair too I think , mine is very silky these days.

Nandos sticky toffee cheese cake 🙌

I have lots of non AF friendly favorites but when I want something sweet and still healthy I bake a sweet potato til soft and the skin is partially caramelized. Let it cool just enough to pick it up and eat it whole-skin and all; no butter. It's high fiber, healthy and doesn't spike blood sugar. I usually eat it by itself like a dessert. Like healthy sweet potato pie. Yummy with no guilt.

Salted cashew nuts. I was on a flight last week and needed a couple of guilty pleasures. Wine; tick, cashew nuts; sorry, there is someone on board with a nut allergy and we aren't serving any at all. I was so disappointed!

Oh I’m so sorry! Could’ve been me 😊

(Not that I was flying then - but sorry and thank you for your sacrifice on behalf of nut anaphylaxis people like me!) x

I didn’t mind really! The risk of the effect on someone far outweighed the guilty pleasure. But it brought it home to me the stringent precautions sufferers have to take.

Thank you for such understanding! Yes it does make flying very hazardous when your life is in the hands of other people not opening a bag of nuts, or peanut butter sandwich etc. (It’s the same anywhere, but at least in a cinema or cafe you can get out, and to a&e if necessary!) x

Can food be a trigger and if so are there any specific culprits other than caffeine and chocolate? I’m searching for triggers at the moment beyond stress and sleep.

wilsond profile image

Generally for me not but the quantity and time of eating can be...i.e. A large meal after 6-7 pm.

Hi LouBrig. I'm still learning and getting nowhere! At the beginning if I had an episode I'd jump on something like "oh, it must've been that sip I took of my husband's coffee yesterday" or "it's bread" because I'd just had a sandwich. I gave up alcohol completely for months then had three days of family celebrations where I drank regardless and didn't have one episode. I'm absolutely sure that tiredness, emotions and thinking about my heart play a huge role for me though, and I still suspect caffeine, but who knows? it seems we're all different.

Sorry about this confusing reply ... wish I had the answer :-)

At the moment I am nursing a stinking Summer Cold has anyone got a remedy for a diabetic AF sufferer who takes🌷🍀 warfarin, insulin gabapentin, bisoprolol with a stuffed up nose and a sore throat. I am worried as to what I can safely take to ease my cough and cold misery? I don't feel much like

JaneFinn profile image
JaneFinn in reply to Gladaven

Oh Gladaven I’m sorry you’re suffering :(

Can you eat (ideally home made) chicken broth? With things like ginger and chillis in, if you like a bit of heat? Very nourishing and good at chasing away the infection ...

And if you need to cool your throat down, can you freeze diabetic friendly fruit drink into ice cube trays and suck on them through the day?

Hope you feel better soon x

Eating at the moment cannot even type my message properly, my secret food at the moment???? a cup of ovaltine and a tinned red salmon sandwich. Anyone out there who can help and reassure me. Many thanks the very snotty one Gladie. xx.

Pollen levels are very high at the moment. Sore throat, very snotty nose, itchy eyes. Have you considered hay fever?

Well I have to be honest and say I never feel too guilty about eating things I shouldn't. If I do it's short lived.

Here's my list of things I shouldn't eat but do at times:

Sainsbury's buttermint sweets (pack once a week)

Magnum ice-creams pack of four (once every two months)

Alpro Dark Choclolate desserts (weekly pack of four)

Jakemans Throat and chest menthol sweets (One pack every two weeks)

I never eat pastry or cake.

Never have burgers and cook wholesome meals daily from scratch

Surely you're all having more goodies than you're admitting!!!!
