CABANA Trial: Another article, but... - Atrial Fibrillati...
CABANA Trial
and another by Dr John Mandrola who has conducted many ablations over the years - the para on Safety is noteable,
My takeaway on Cabana is that ablation in many cases will not make any difference in important clinical end points such as longevity and stroke risk. So do not let any doctor talk you into it as the only way to go. On the other hand, it's a very reasonable alternative if you cannot tolerate medications and fully understand the risks and limitations of the procedure. In short, ablation is as much (perhaps more) of a lifestyle decision than a medical decision.

Would entirely agree and if you do go down the ablation route get it done by and EP who has carried on multiple procedures.
...I agree .
I have reservations about CABANA not only in how it was conducted (as discussed in a previous thread ) but with an eye to the fact that performing ablations must be a lucrative business in the USA.
By all means make ablation available but carefully consider each patient as an individual when assessing if the benefits of the procedure outweigh the risks.
I recently refused an ablation (for now) after it was suggested to me by an assistant on behalf of a Cardiologist/Electrophysiologist I have never met to be performed in a hospital that only recently started to perform ablation and which yet again has been damned as inadequate in the latest Quality Care Commision report ...
[Quote BBC: ''Nearly three years after the trust was first rated inadequate, it's still inadequate and remains in special measures.'' ]
...I have to wonder, am I being looked at as a patient for whom an ablation would be suitable or am I being offered one to increase the number of ablations performed in the hospital to increase its standing.
