Fits of rage...

I was about to post a short update at six months about how everything was going swimmingly until this afternoon I got very cross (at something trivial) and then....bang....AF again and here I am - back to square one.

Does anybody else find rage/anger as a trigger? Just curious.

At least the Flecainide did its stuff very quickly.

Back to the drawing board for me. Nearly two years off alcohol and caffeine really has driven me around the bend. I used to be quite a placid fellow.....

I guess it's a case of an adrenaline rush. I can get very cross at what I perceive as injustices but doesn't affect my AF

Yes mine began that way four years ago when my husband forgot to pick me up on a very hot day and I had to walk home in the heat. I was very angry and upset. At a routine visit to GP that afternoon for something else I was told Iwas in atrial fibrillation!

I found out through my experience that my temper, which admittedly has never been on the mellow temperate side, comes to the forefront more right BEFORE I have and episode. So at least for me anger is more of a warning sign.

Would the adrenaline rush affect your Kardia reading? I took 100mg PiP Flecainide at 5:30pm and was back in sinus rhythm at 6pm.

On reflection my high heart rate could have been due to me dragging a recalcitrant golden retriever puppy (5 months 12.5kgs) for 25 minutes and adrenaline from shouting at 8 year old for crossing road at the wrong time. Boiling with rage about covers it...yet I wonder does Flecainide act so soon? Even in A&E IV Amiodarone took at least 45 minutes to calm my heart down. Oh well, today’s another day should be thankful for that.

Any intense arousal - emotion, anger, anxiety etc. It is not only adrenaline rush but also a vagal response.

Dont the beta blocker meds try and block or reduce that response? Im hoping they do as my hubby is going thru preliminary heart tests, Im telling myself its ok but my heart disagreed and I had a visit from a fib the nite after his stress test!!!

I not sure as to how a chemical can directly affect vagus?

Improving vagal tone helps, breathing exercises, Mindfuless Etc.

Beta blockers block at cellular level - I think. ??

I would like to take beta blockers but have asthma. What I’d really like, though, is a nice pint of beer. And another one. And one more just in case. Sigh.

Worked well for me, I was wearing a 24 hour monitor at the time, had an argument with hubby, got very upset and when they read the results I was in af at that time! ( don't recommend it though)

I've not had this happen to me, but I agree that it is probably not the rage directly causing the AF. For me at least, it would be the stress and high blood pressure that makes me more susceptible to rage, and that would be the culprit. I've found I am less likely to 'take off' since I've been taking the Bisoprolol daily. Maybe the beta blocker lowers the stress response?

Sounds like an adrenaline rush and your body getting ready to fight. One way to counter its influence is with Mindfulness which I found so helpful in creating a calmer outlook.

Hope it was a one-off episode.
