Gastroenteritis and paraxoxismal Af

Trying to keep calm after the flying doctor visit! . Weds nightime was the onset of an awful bout of gastroenteritis lasting on until sat morning. Felt a little better yesterday day, so started drinking and taking a little diorolyte as I had been fine, but then as I expected with the dehydration the Afib kicked in around bedtime, shame when you know what's coming . So the PiP flecanide I have I took the first 100mg , I usually wait an hour prior to feeling if it needs another 100mg as prescribed(200mg), but fell asleep, exhausted . Woke at 6.30am today not feeling the best and totally dry mouthed. As soon as I got up Afib again, back into bed and now it really went for it, cold, Clammy, awful feeling, racing and dropping big missed beats, deep breathing and then had a Magnesium and a banana this seemed to really ease it as it normally does, but called after an hour or so 111 as felt so weak and freezing .

They wanted to send and ambulance, no! I explained, I had paraxoxismal AF and was used to it 2/3 times a year if suffering flu or similar illnesses , explained I was just concerned I was so Dehydrated and would just like best advice to rehydrate quickly and could I take the full 200mg flecanide again today try stop it again . Nobody knew, so they would send a doctor by 1pm, so 2.35pm he arrives, the charming man he turned out to be! , after BP check 142/90 (I have hypertension so isn't bad for me) a urine sample he checked, I said I had this for years, my main concern was that I am just worried feeling so weak and can't drink enough, my stomach still in bits. After lecturing me on rate control and bisprolol, at which I told him I tried 4 years ago and ended in A@E with low blood pressure, he then said my specialist was strange using flecanide on its own! I reiterated again this works for me usually always has and the specialist seems quite good In his field, then asked could i take another 100mg or 200mg tonight after some hydration? He then rang the registrar at the local hospital , who I could hear telling him that I obviously knew my condition well after explaining it all , at this he then said we'll I think hospital is the best bet! . The registrar said no, not for now, and I heard this and also said no, he then told him to check the Afib out as he hadn't! , said I had a rapid pulse at 80-105, I said that's probably as I'm now so annoyed. Registrar said that's not excessive with you visiting and being so unwell, so no real concerns. He left after basically doing nothing, so now sent the wife for more diorolyte and then after two of those it's flecanide time, still dint know of I can try one or do two at same time, oh wow, how ill informed our medical people in the NE are of this condition, its actually quite scary. Roll on Monday.

It really isn't just the NE! Think of a current garage mechanic getting in for repair an old MIni with a distributor, points. condenser and coil. Most would never have seen one and be quite lost. Don't even mention a pair of Weber carbs!!! It is what people are used to and despite there being over a million diagnosed cases of AF in UK the chances of meeting one is quite low.

As I always tell people.become an expert on YOU.

Your spot on with that analogy Bob, seems like only the sufferers and few and far clinicians are actually switched onto this blighted condition.
