Ive hsd a holter mo itor and an echco my ep said they were normal so he prescribed flec is that enough to go on?

Flecanaide has always been fine for me. I'd get AF, chomp my PiP and the AF would go in a few hours and then I'd feel completely normal afterwards. No side effects, just a nice regular heartbeat.

Its an excellent way to revert - used this for 20 years plus and works within 2-3 hours. I find laying down after taking the PiP makes it work quicker. Good luck.

Hi Mac909

Do you mind if I ask you if you are on regular anticoagulant or not?

I wish you well

I used Flecanide to convert for 8 years with zero issues.

Just been given Flecainide as a PIP the same as you. I take a calcium channel blocker and I’m afraid the Flecainide is having no effect on me. Took one the other night for the first time and still in AF at 10am the next morning. Ringing the arrhythmia nurse this morning.

I have been taking Flecainide for years, every day 1 tablet. When I get AF I take another one. It helps to convert and it works within 2 - 3 - 4 hours. No side-effects.

I was given Flecainide during an A & E visit when my Sotalol ( for Paroxysmal AF ) and other treatment didn't help during a visit whilst having a unusual for me SVT atrial flutter and it saved me from having a second cardioversion . I have now being giving it with confidence as my PIP.

I was truly afraid to take Flec the first time. But after the initial worry it was fine. I wait an hour after Af had started, take the flec and try and lie down and be calm. Usually works within a couple of hours. Found the longer I wait to take it the result is nt so good and may have to take another later on.

Flecainide is one of the better drugs and as a pill in the pocket not bad.

I doubt you'd get any side effects from sometime use. I assume your EP is happy with the low beta blocker dose you are on and your 1st degree HB.

Amiadorone on the other hand is getting bad press in the US for the side effects of long time use and long half life.

Ive been on it for almost 2 yr, love it. Ive never had any issues with it. I started with daily meds, didnt tolerate so saw EP and he started me on pip. He also advised me on lifestyle changes, which I did. One thing Ive managed to overcome is the fear and anxiety associated with a fib. It has taken 2 yr to get a handle on it but I do believe anxiety only makes the a fib worse.

My cardiologist is not a fan of pip, but Im close to taking him out of the loop.

I am actually seeing my doctor today I’ve had three oblations one 6 Months ago. I take Flecinide twice a day. Metoperal and Xeralto. Feel really good. I should find out today what medicine I can stop. My HR has been between 60 and 70 and even after exercising I have a hard time getting it over 100. So feel really good. Just really concerned about the long-term effects of what I’m taking. I’m 65 years old prediabetic but losing weight. I attribute Weight gain on the drugs I’m taking so now I have to diet and exercise more. Does anyone know if the drugs I’m taking above cause weight gain?

Hi Kevinder23

I have been on flecainide for about 9 months now. I take 50mg twice a day every day and have no side effects. Up to now I am not in the least worried about it. Hope this helps and please remember af is not a life threatening illness.

Regards Flyer.

I can understand the anxiety when you read the potential side-effects. If you are worried I suggest you go to A&E the first time you take it so they can monitor you. That's what I did and they were fine and really understanding with me going in and asking for that.

I should add it worked fine with no side effects that I could discern.

Hi Kevinder23,

The replies to your query seem to be very positive so it's an effective drug for many, however I didn't respond at all well to it and it caused adverse reactions in spite of the fact that it worked reasonably well as a PIP. It was the main reason I opted to have an ablation so I could give it up, which fortunately I have done since the procedure. It brought on arrhythmias instead of curing them at times. Do give it a try but check immediately with your EP if you suspect it is making you feel unwell. Just be wary!

This is why i am anxious you are so worried about making things worse with these drugs how on earth are you suposed to know what to do .thankyou for taking the time to reply everyone x

in reply toKevinder23

You have to do your research on a fib but ultimately you need to trust your doctor too. My cardiologist and I are parting ways after 2 yr of disagreeing and Im sticking with my EP who listens and if we disagree on something, he considers my point and I believe we have a great working relationship. I completely trust him and wanted to trust the other doc but just couldnt.
