ectopic beats

I am sleeping well but when I wake up and have breakfast I start to have lots of ectopic beats but once I am active and working it stabilises. I know I am a worrier and recently I have had AF 3 times in a few weeks but pill in pocket tends to sort within a couple of hours. I am due to fly to Spain tomorrow and am worrying I may go into Af on the plane.

I wouldn't have thought there was any specific feature of flying which would trigger an attack. I have had AF for 12 years and flown over 100 times with never a problem. Anyway you have the flecainide if needed. I was advised by my cardiologist just to get on with your life. This has worked well for me, and I think others.

Enjoy your holiday!

Thank you.

Couldn’t agree more with fnurd. Most folk here have flown when in AF. Suggest you avoid alcohol and drink lots of water, keeps you hydrated and encourages regular trips to the loo which is useful too......have a great holiday....

Worry will make ectopics worse so try find some strategy to cope - slow breathing exercises really help. Slow your breathing to 6-7 breaths per minute - it really helps.

The trouble with AF is that if you adjust your life to the AF - you won’t have a life. I had to travel and woke in the morning with AF - I decided I would take one step at a time. I drove the airport - I was OK. I walked slowly to the terminal. I was OK - I thought I would just check in and see how I was - knowing I could bail at any time - I was OK. I would just get to the gate. I was ok - I would just get to plane - I was ok. On plane, once we had taken off and I knew there was nothing I could now do as I could no longer bail - AF stopped. Never been concerned about flying and AF ever again. Done loads of travel with long haul.

So you go into AF - just sit it out and if you need help at the other end - ask for help.

Might be an idea to book for airport assistance as if you go through one of the big airports - Malaga for instance - there is an auwful long walk and I now struggle walking long distances.

Enjoy your holiday! CD.

"The trouble with AF is that if you adjust your life to the AF - you won’t have a life." That says it all, doesn't it? CD you always say the right thing.

It was flying into Malaga but apart from a few palpitations I was fine. Thank you for your help I am now enjoying relaxing in not so sunny Spain

Back home from rainy Spain and am beginning to wonder if my IBS has a link to AF and ectopic beats. I seem to get these in a morning after breakfast when my IBS is at its worst. Once my tum has settled I seem fine with no ectopic beats.

May I suggest you look at what you eat for breakfast. I avoid ALL carbohydrates including all cereals, toast etc.

I start with a homemade smoothie - half apple, Kefir, slice ginger root, quarter of lemon, handful of greens (spinach etc), ice cubes and/or water. That is often enough for me for the morning but if you need more - protein + fat = eggs or fruit and yogurt or plenty of recipes on Paleo diet protocol.

I recently bought Dr Chaterjee’s book -;0 The 4 Pillar Plan - very easy to read and a really good explanation of leaky gut and helpful hints on what, when & how to eat well.

Best wishes CD,
