It's been 9 months since I had my ablation which apparently went ok thankfully .i haven't had any days since before the op which have seen me go back into fullAf like before , although I do still get some random flutters & small runs of ectopic beats at any time . I'm a plasterer and I'm 46 So my job keeps me active to a certain degree , however My question is it safe to go back into the gym , as it's been 3years since I last went , I don't do lots of heavy weights as I get enough of that in my job but I enjoy swimming , running ,squash and most of the gym equipment. I haven't been on any meds now for 7months but I'd like to try and get myself into better shape. Any advice would be grateful

Andy

You should certainly check with your EP before getting started, but it is really important to incorporate heart healthy exercise into your routine and swimming, squash, etc sounds great. I was told to start exercising gently again just a few weeks after ablation. Just start slowly since it has been 9 months! Wishing you continued wellness!

Only advice I can give is listen to your body. If it protests then slow down.

One comment on your profession is that I find lifting things above my head can still set of runs of ectopics - and of course plasterers lift tonnes of plaster onto ceilings - so be careful on that. For other exercise just build up to what your body wants.

I agree with bob, I started doing some light decorating 2 weeks post ablation (an hour a day) and regretted it - feeling totally wiped out the week after.

My Bordeaux EP said I could exercise 6 weeks after my ablation. My Vancouver EP said that I should exercise. I agree with the other posts that you should start slowly.
