Pacemaker and Exercise

As well as PAF I also have cardiomyopathy and slightly dodgy electrics (left bundle branch block). My EP is suggesting a pacemaker to help support my heart. I am a keen cyclist doing two 60 mile cycles a week. I am interested in the implications of having a pacemaker fitted. All comments, hints and tips welcome.

Hi I had AF amongst other things. Had pacemaker 2014 that and meds keep me going.?it was set at 60bpm but also after few weeks another part switched on allows for it to go to 125 if exercising. This enables me to do sessions at the gym. I'm told 99% pacemaker reliant. Hope that helps

Hi AFcyclist - its up to you, but may be thinking you can carry on doing 2 x 60 miles a week with more than one heart condition, you may want to think of slowing down a little. A pacemaker is not a cure - its an aid. Its up to you how you live your life. My advice would be slow down and give your heart a cuddle and a chance to get stronger.

Kind regards,
