Now in permanent AFib. Not coping well. On Metoprolol and an antidepressant. Frequent episodes of SOB with exertion. Any ideas?

AFib Permanent
Did a cardiologist put you on antidepressants or a GP?
I don’t know about Metoprolol but I am on Bisoprolol, 1.25mg a day, which I believe is a tiny dose. Yesterday I climbed a steep hill and was literally panting. I am quite fit but since taking Bisoprolol I am often short of breath on exertion like lots of stairs. Is this similar to you?
I am sorry you are not coping well, have the antidepressants kicked in properly?
I take 1.25mg of Bisoprolol daily and I get out of breath walking upstairs and walking up hills even if they are not steep ones. I have been in permanent AF for almost a year now and the breathlessness is really starting to get me down.
Beta blockers left me feeling lousy and SOB even when not in AF, was glad to be off them. Can you ask for a referral for counselling? The waiting lists are so long, can you have a couple of sessions privately to keep you going in the meantime? As an ex nurse myself, we need to take our own advice sometimes! :o)
I admit to feeling pretty low a few weeks ago when my AF was continual despite trying every single thing to prevent/stop it. Somehow, I've now been in NSR for 9 days now - I like to think it's due to the daily meditation and making a breakthrough with self healing. But this is a route not many people are interested in undertaking, and I would definitely explore the counselling route if I wasn't doing any meditation/healing stuff.
Sending you some good vibes and hope you feel better soon :o)
I started anti depressants too. I could feel the effect within 2 days. They haven't helped the AF but have helped the anxiety and depression a lot. I can now go about normal life again within the limitations of AF. Counselling didn't work for me. Meditation was / is good. I recommend the Headspace app.
