Hi Ratnut, glad you are so well, when did you have it fitted? I, too, have just had a pacemaker fitted (Friday). A wee issue with the wire moving meant the wound was reopened and wire adjusted so I felt a bit battered over the weekend. Just waiting to end the antibiotics and take the dressing off today and can't wait for a proper shower! Out walking with no Ill affect. Worse thing is remembering not to raise and use left arm for lifting etc... Looking forward to getting fit again

Hi Beehive just read your post, I have been fitted with a pacemaker,( Thursday) how did they know that the wire had moved? Was it after you left hospital?I have been told that I have to go in for an AV ablation in approx 6 weeks before I will get any benefit from implant. At moment in permanent AF with resting heart rate of 118bpm,

Hi Topcat0800, when the cardiac physiologist checked the pacemaker signal etc about 2 hours after the procedure, she called the cardiologist to have a look at the results as she thought the V wire had moved. He concurred and advised he could take me back in and reposition it. As it is a local anaesthetic and I didn't have sedation, I felt fine so agreed. The team checked me again about an hour after the second insertion and I also had an xray and thankfully all ok. I was asked to come back Monday morning for another check and all seemed well but unable to fully check A lead as I was in AF all flipping day! Back again in 6 weeks. I was advised that although not a cure for AF, it may reduce the frequency...Did they not connect you up to a computer to check your pacemaker and give you a chest xray before the discharged you?

Yes had chest X-ray and tested pacemaker before discharge but have to put up with fast rate until A V Node ablation is done which will reduce my heart rate to about 30 bum they can reset pacemaker to give me an acceptable rate.

I see! Hopefully it will lead to a huge improvement in your quality of life. I had no problem on a 45 minute walk today and last week I was huffing and puffing after 10 minutes walking tge same route.

Brilliant. You're the second person whom I have heard extolling the benefits of a pacemaker. I want one!

Bought a book on heart failure on the advice of a kind person here and flicked through it yesterday to be met with the sentence, "Fifty per cent of heart failure patients die within five years of diagnosis". 😩

All the more reason to read the book's recommendations, and so to take steps to avoid being a part of that statistic!

Yes, Polski , thank you so much for recommending it. I'm finding it really interesting. Was thinking of leaving it casually for my consultant πŸ˜€

I was diagnosed with heart failure nearly 4years ago and with good medication it has improved but I developed af but that seems to be under control after cryoblation

Hi - great to read your positive post. Welcome to the Metal Mickey club. I have had mine for 2 years and since having it fitted my AF seems much better controlled, although a pacemaker does not prevent episodes of AF. Good luck for the future.

Best wishes

Carol
