Just had a third ablation over a week ago, the cardiologist has said the left atrium was quite dilated and there was a lot of scar and abnormal electrogram, because of this he wouldn't do another ablation if needed, as he doesn't think it would be successful, has anyone had a similar thing happen?

Yes. You may have read that I have had 5 AF ablations, 2 including a Flutter ablation and a 6th ablation that was only for Flutter. That on was the very first ablation I had.
I have been told that I have a lot of scarring on the inside of my atrium and for this reason my EP will not do any more AF ablations.
However he called me a week ago when we discussed the fact that since my last ablation 8 weeks ago.
I have had 3 episodes of Atrial Tachycardia. He thinks that this is a good sign and that if the Tachycardia continues it is possible to interrupt this with a further targeted ablation.
Still early days we are different.
By the way, the scarring is caused by years of AF and if course ablation causes scarring but this is therapeutic scarring not the scarring that you have had explained to you.
I had an ablation in Aug 2014 when they found fibrosis in my left atrium. I was told that a 2nd ablation would never be an option. Pace and ablate would be next.
I believe the fibrosis was caused by aggressive radiotherapy to my left shoulder.
I still have AF but the episodes are much milder and so far 100 flecainide works as a pill in the pocket.
